For those moments when I need to use a pistol lock box in the car. Keyed or combination? Nothing with batteries.
My buddy just recently picked up a Fort Knox and he loves it. Easy combo on the safeI have a fort Knox lock box. Very sturdy but needs to be mounted. Also needs some space.

Keyed. Button locks like the one in the picture above are too easy to figure out. Make sure you bolt it down well, too.
I use keyed versions of the Bulldog 1121 clamshell design steel cases, and have them in each vehicle under my seat and cabled to the seat frame; in my airline checked travel bag; and in my desk at work. All were changed to be keyed alike. They all include a cable that will at least slow down someone trying to steal one from your car. About $25.00 as I recall. Cabela's offered their own knockoff that looked identical, but was actually a bit smaller, - too small in fact to be useful.
