I have a fort Knox lock box. Very sturdy but needs to be mounted. Also needs some space.

Pros and cons for both. I believe there are approx 1100 possible combinations with a 5 button simplex lock. Yeah somebody with a lot of time could sit down, try each combination and get it open. Time usually isn't something one has in a car break-in. Good thing about the 5 button simplex is it is really fast to open if you know the right combination. A real plus for something holding the owners gun should situation arise that he needs it (quickly). No fumbling with keys. More likely in vehicle situation whether keyed or combo it will be attacked with a hammer, screwdriver or pry bar. The Fort Knox above is made of very heavy gauge steel. At end of day all you can do is what you're comfortable with anything can be broken into given enough time.

I use keyed versions of the Bulldog 1121 clamshell design steel cases, and have them in each vehicle under my seat and cabled to the seat frame; in my airline checked travel bag; and in my desk at work. All were changed to be keyed alike. They all include a cable that will at least slow down someone trying to steal one from your car. About $25.00 as I recall. Cabela's offered their own knockoff that looked identical, but was actually a bit smaller, - too small in fact to be useful.When I travel by air, it holds my M&P Shield .45; two spare mags and the mag from the gun; a folding knife, and a factory ammo box of 20 rounds of .45ACP. I have an extra one if I decide instead to take the twins from my Ubering days (two M&P Shield 9mm's).
The others work when I need to leave one in the car unexpectedly, or have to leave it at work if I'm going somewhere restricted, rather than taking it home first.
