But.....
I will NOT sacrifice power or utility.
I need my truck to pull horse trailers and other equipment.
I also am not willing to leave all repairs for the manufacturer to do.
I fix my own stuff and break stuff often.
If I cannot buy aftermarket parts to repair, then I dont want one.
Tesla makes decent cars but is a shit company after the sale.

Does any one here have an EV? I see them putting in charging stations at restaurants, rest areas, and even Wal-mart. Are these "free"? Can't wait til they start charging for these with a special tax to make up for the loss in gasoline taxes. Or will they just increase the gas taxes for those of us that don't go electric?

It's a waste to invest all this money into infrastructure if people aren't ready to invest in the cars. The mousetrap needs to be better, and then the demand will follow. With demand will come adaptation from gas stations to make a profit.

Let the free market work by itself.

I came very close to buying one a few months ago. Decided on another Subaru instead. I’m fairly certain that our next cars will be EV’s though, ESPECIALLY if Subaru has one by then. My friend has a Tesla and I absolutely love it except for the ride height and styling.

We have looked at an EV for our second vehicle.
A few things I dont like are....
Cold weather can cut your battery time by 40%....thats not great.
And, the less expensive EVs have as little as a 75 mile range on the battery...Ford Focus, Nissan Leaf and a few others.
If I need to go to Buffalo, ill need to charge before I leave home, then charge before I get to Buffalo, then before I get home, then when I get home. Thats 4 charges for a 200 mile round trip.
Also, most arent great in the snow, they are heavy and hard to stop on ice.
And most of all, they are no more environmentally friendly than a gasoline car. From the energy needed to build them and source the batteries to the huge amount of coal burning electricity it takes to charge them, to the disposal of their very toxic batteries.
Some say that if everyone drove an EV, coal burning electric plants would need to produce 60% more electricity than they currently do.
We really couldnt find any advantage unless you go with a $100,000 Tesla....then you must deal with Teslas horrible after sale care.

Sometimes just driving my kids back and forth to their mothers is 40 miles a day for me of stop and go traffic, it’s crazy. My Outback averages 26 or so with my normal habits, but an EV would be amazing for me. Plus both my wife and I can charge at work.

If I was to do this today with no money restrictions, I’d get her a Tesla and me a hybrid Crosstrek. I only passed on the Crosstrek because for the same price I was able to get a fully loaded Outback which is the most luxurious vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I may already own one if I lived in a city.
Our problem is we have a 30 mile round trip toget to a store....not a good store, just a Dollar General.
To get to Wegmans or Walmart, its a 40 mile round trip.
In a Nissan Leaf in the cold, I would have to charge in town to make it home.

An electric can make a great second car, but I would not want to rely on one solely with today's state of the technology.

I have given some though to getting one of these once we get to AZ though.

I would buy an EV if ----> BIG IF, they could recharge a battery in the same time frame it took to fuel todays cars? 3 to 5 minutes, i really don't see that happening in the next 10 years

He said it will start small scale in big cities and work its way out to the smaller towns.
So, you never have to charge your batteries, they charge as you drive.
Something like a Tesla coil, grabbing electricity from the air.
Estimated time until viable.....20-30 years.

The real key would be a system where batteries are swapped out at a network of stations just like gas stations.

I personally don’t ever see myself owning an EV anytime in the near future. They do not fit my lifestyle at all. I have a truck because I need a truck. I haul stuff for landscaping and I tow a camper 2-5 hours to camp. Also I will never make the money back on the gas savings or Maitenance costs. My wife’s 2014 just hit 46K and has never needed a repair. I drove it to and from work for 2-3 years too or it would only have 20K on it. Now I have a work vehicle so I’ll drive 5,000 miles a year and that’s about it. My wife drives the same.

I also refuse to believe the hold up is there aren’t places to charge your EV.

Bill is done by credit card at point of sale. Currently just a sales tax. I'm sure that will change when people get addicted.

You keep a diesel generator at home to charge the bike if the power goes out. I'm not interested in it for any kind of green BS.

For myself, I don't see owning one. Not until they recharge in less than 10 minutes, have a range over 1000 miles, and are built into Jeeps.
