The problem is, as others have astutely identified, that: Those on the right consider those on the left to be people with bad ideas. Those on the left consider those on the right to be bad people with ideas.What we need is to go back to the mindset that founded this Country. The idea that, even though someone may not believe as you do, they have just as much Right to live their life as you do to live yours. That no one belief is the "correct way" and all others are false.

When I was a kid, my mother used to tell me a rendition of the Vince Lombardi quote "Losers never win, and winners never quit." She used to tell it to me whenever something got particularly bad in my life, or when I was feeling down. I didn't realize the full value of that quote for many years, but I feel like it applies here especially well here today.
If you all want to sit around here with your thumbs up your asses, spelling doom and gloom, then fine. I won't be a part of that. I'm not going to lay down and simply die because the going is getting tough. You're not going to win if you don't pull yourself up and try. It's not about the chances being 50%, or 25%, or even 5%. It's about looking at that 1% and saying "there's a chance we pull this off" and ramming success through the head of that needle.
The per-requesite to change is action. I suggest we stop bickering about the if and start focusing on the how.

I'd like to pull this back on topic, and see if we can get something constructive going on.
I think we need to take a big step back, and identify the areas we'd need to focus on to be strategically viable.
This is so general an outline, it could probably be applied to many forms of business. Being agile is not just something in software development that big tech companies use -- it can apply to anything. Iterate often, and bring feedback to the table. Evolve through doing and correcting.
- We need to spend extensive time knowing what lines of compromise we're willing to make, and what ones we're not. This is never going to be a finalized process. It's going to be a continual process that requires review, deep thought, and revision. We'll set lines, and redraw them as we find exceptions to the rule. However, by having a way to define our fundamentals, other areas of work will naturally flow from this. (This is probably a really hard step, believe it or not.) Looking for areas to compromise is not useful. Compromise is only valuable when you get something of greater value in return, so you can't decide what you are willing to compromise until you know what you will get out of it.
- Based on what we find to be sacred and common, we need to identify a list of areas in which we can implement these changes that will be most effective at reinforcing our viewpoints. These would concern areas of education, community organization, and business interactions -- to name a few that come immediately to mind. Turning the country around would require rooting out the leftist stranglehold in the big tech, the media and education as well as eliminating most of the federal bureaucracy. Any attempt to change our course must start there.
- Once we get past step #2, we need to identify concrete actions that can take place to implement our goals from step #2.
- Action. Everything is armchair philosophy till this step takes place. Talk is cheap.
- Revision. Go back to step #1. This will never be a complete cycle. It will require continual iteration. It will never be perfect, but that's the nature of the beast.
These are just my thoughts while I'm on the wild turkey 101 this evening. If y'all find these points a good outline, I'll see if I can talk to @HEX about getting a subforum going or something to make some serious progress going and break these discussions into concrete threads. I want to see some real progress come from this election cycle. We're all not going to live forever, and I don't intend to spend my time waiting on change that may never come.

Like a marriage gone bad, we have reached the dreaded point of irreconcilable differences. There's no going back. There's no saving the marriage, at this point we're only together for the kids.
The best possible solution (although the least likely) I've suggested in other threads is people self migrate to states that support their views. We break up our nation as we know it and form alliances of states like the EU and have trade and defense treaties amongst ourselves but free to govern each state how they want. Maybe just go back to what our states were supposed to be, being held loosely together by a weak federal government.
If california wants to go full out commie, let them. If idaho wants to go full out conservative let them.
Give people a chance to live as they choose in peace.
