YeahGoyabean, thanks for posting the article.
With road fatalities in NYC already at levels not seen for a decade (2019 seeing 218 deaths and a 200% increase in bicyclists killed) this plan to ease the rules on the worst drivers can only increase the carnage. Soon it will not be safe to cross the street in Manhattan.

Driver's licenses should not exist.

How else can they track you, silly rabbit.Driver's licenses should not exist.

Right to Travel is NOT a right to operate a motor vehicle!
So, let me get this straight.
Someone doesn't pay their fines, they keep their license?
Yet if three people hit my parked car on three different occasions within 18 months, then they'll want me to take another driver's test?
Fuck these people.
I’m sure they will suspend your pistol permit though. Fuck them. Here's a pro tip for everyone: If you get a ticket of any kind, under this this law you have absolutely no obligation to pay it and in fact you will not lose your driver's license. That much is true. However, you can get your license suspended for failure to appear in court. So all you have to do is keep showing up to court, approach the bench and say "Your honor, I cannot afford to pay this ticket at this time" and you can be on your merry way. The key is you have to keep showing up to court. If you stop then the judge can pull your license.
For the record the NYS Magistrate's Association has been fighting this new law (just like they have with bail reform).
I’m sure they will suspend your pistol permit though. Fuck them.
And your right to operate the motor vehicle on the roads comes from the fact you pay for the roads.Where does it say in the constitution your right to travel freely is restricted to only walking?

“Because Black and Latinx people are disproportionately stopped, ticketed, charged and convicted for traffic violations, this especially burdens their families and communities,” he said.
We got you for that.Bro, if you look at the wrong judge funny they can pull your pistol permit with no problems.
It's pretty amazing (and sad ultimately) how easy it is to seize someone's guns in NYS. Getting them back is a whole different story.
Did you ever hurt anyone while speeding? The speed limits are bullshit and need to be raised. They like them low so the state can rob you of your money .I've been caught in that very cycle that the article mentions. But... I deserved it. I sped like a demon and kept on driving (and speeding) with a suspended license. It's not like someone else put me in that position. Eventually, I slowed down a bit and broke out of the cycle. Which is exactly what the cycle was designed to do, right?
It's hard to argue with such personally identifiable results, but I also recognize that there is an issue here. Fines are inherently unfair to those with lower incomes. Those fines that were crippling me back in the day would mean nothing to me now. I think there's an argument to be made that fines should be in proportion to one's income, but that is a really ugly can of worms that I don't want to open. My point here is that I recognize that there is a problem, but I don't think Cuomo's solution will fix it.

Funny story about fines and suspensions: during my aforementioned young-and-dumb years, I was pulled over by the same trooper, in the same spot, two days in a row. Both times speeding, and both times I was given bonus tickets for tint/stickers/etc. Six tickets altogether, all in front of a judge at the same time. My lawyer, who was pretty impressive at his job, could only do so much for me this time. I ended up getting a combined fine of $710. I didn't exactly have that kind of money sitting around. Since that would have been my third (and fourth) speeding tickets in 18 months, I knew my license was going to be revoked for six months anyway, so I figured I'd wait to pay the ticket until the six month revocation was over.
The court suspended my license for non-payment of the fines, and I waited for the revocation period to start. And waited. And waited. For over a year. The revocation never came through. So when I got my tax refund that year, I paid the fines and got the suspension lifted.
One month later, I received a notice from the DMV that my license would be revoked for six months due to 3 speeding convictions in 18 months. Turns out the conviction didn't get filed until I paid the fine. The state definitely won that round, hah.![]()
This truck was going an estimated 100 mph in a 45 mph zone when it left the road. It hit the first tree almost 8' up. We didn't have to extricate though as both occupants were found about 30' away. Both survived at least long enough to get a helicopter ride to the hospital.Did you ever hurt anyone while speeding? The speed limits are bullshit and need to be raised. The 7 states with "May Issue" firearm permitting schemes. (of which NYS is one) will potentially be facing SCOTUS and having to defend that BS, - as long as SCOTUS doesn't get packed by the Dems first, as there are now a couple of lawsuits working their way to SCOTUS. IF, and I say that again, IF, SCOTUS doesn't sell us out, - which is still a distinct possibility, then NY's May Issue scheme will go away. And with it, the ease with which they can currently suspend or revoke our CCW permits, - even when we haven't been charged with any crime whatsoever.Bro, if you look at the wrong judge funny they can pull your pistol permit with no problems.

Most people are unable to handle driving at these limits. I spend most of my day writing reports about why two idiots crashed into each other.Did you ever hurt anyone while speeding? The speed limits are bullshit and need to be raised. They like them low so the state can rob you of your money .
I'm not saying remove limits but on major highways , thruways it should be raised to 75.Most people are unable to handle driving at these limits. I spend most of my day writing reports about why two idiots crashed into each other.
If we had actual testing and licensing then I'd agree with you.
Not this you have a pulse here's a license bullshit that we do.
