While you are correct those rights do not apply equally in school settings, to search without consent with no threat being reported is a massive over reach for the school (providing the limited information in the article is correct) and I predict their insurance company will be writing a check.

I say go decent but cheaper. I like the Traditions line, spend some money on a scope. I would not worry about something that shoots smokeless powder, but something that shoots Triple 7 or pyrodex (pellets are simpler) with 209 shotgun primers. 50 Cal that shoots 45 caliber bullets with plastic...

I think I bought mine when I bought the barrel (16" carbine). If you cannot find any on ebay or someplace I will loan you mine for a bit (just north of Syracuse). Sometimes I will see them on 24 hour campfire - will let you know if I see any around.
