It's a joke and really only serves as yet another way to stick it to the gun owner. The FBI is NOT going to continue their background check for thirty days. After three, they are done.I've never been denied (no criminal record and I have a weird last name so it's never been a problem). Having said that, it's just one more hoop that honest folks will have to jump through. All the John Smith's in NYS will now have to wait 30 days to get their guns.
I’ve had delayed checks get cleared much further out than 3 days, and I’m delayed every time. No denials, just delays. I think they do keep working on it. Good thing once they clear that transaction’s background check is good for 30 days. It's a joke and really only serves as yet another way to stick it to the gun owner. Huh. So I wonder what they'd do if after the three days, you take your gun home but they then later find something and deny the transaction after the ffl has transferred the gun to you? Raid your house probably?I’ve had delayed checks get cleared much further out than 3 days, and I’m delayed every time. No denials, just delays. I think they do keep working on it. Nothing. That’s part of the problem. They are supposed to work to recover the firearm, but rarely do they even attempt it.Huh. So what happens if you are denied while at the gun store? Do they call the cops? What happens?^^^This.
If memory serves there are some surprisingly high numbers of low hanging fruit like this that ATF simply doesn't bother to get off their ass and go do.
