So.......................
50 rounds of 9mm weighs ~ 1 pound (according to my antique kitchen scale and rounding down a bit).
If I were to turn in 300 rounds of 9mm the first 250 (5 pounds) would be free but that last 50 (1 extra pound) would cost me $5.
Now, if I'm following this...
@Deplorable Me
Here's a couple more roll crimped shells for ya. Obviously a little older.
On the left is a 20 gauge Remington UMC low base, looks like #6 shot. And the slug is a 16 gauge Winchester Super Speed. Both paper and both 2-1/4".
Update #2
Heard back from Federal again...................
"It was just a different way to load the buckshot. It could have been how the machine was set up at that time and then engineers changed it due to finding a faster/more efficient way to manufacture them."
No mention of SEAL teams. LOL
Update: I sent an inquiry to Federal and they responded by saying those were manufactured from 1975 to 1986. Without a lot number from a box they can't narrow that down.
They did not explain (yet) the purpose of the roll crimp / primer sealer configuration. I'm hoping my follow up email will...
I would replace that bent seal. And I would smooth out the burrs on the magazine tube as @kev74 suggested. Gently!!!!! Might even go to something like 1,000 grit wet sandpaper. Run a knife edge or credit card edge along those spots to feel when the burrs are gone and you can stop.
Might want to...
Previously I mentioned that a story came with these shells when they were given to me. I held it back to see if anyone would come out with a similar story. But @Deplorable Me touched on it when he said, "I've not seen roll crimps in years on buckshot. Specifically for sealant and water...
I appreciate the offer but first have to find out if these are some super special extremely rare rounds made for and only issued to secret commando units.
Only then will I be able to determine the proper amount to charge you for the privilege of conducting said testing.
;)
Was given a couple dozen rounds of this buckshot - loose, no box. Looking on the Federal website and various other places I find nothing that looks like this.
Note what appears to be some sort of sealant on the primer and the rolled crimp & overshot card (?) instead of the typical folded...
@ryguy
Nice test and thanks for posting. I have only shot 1 with a .223. A 55 grain Winchester soft point at about 50 yards out of a Mini 14. One shot, dropped right where he stood. Actually surprised the hell out of me.
I picked up some Hornady 72 grain hollow points I was thinking of...
Yeah, I know.
But I just did an inventory and I have waaaaay more projectiles than I have brass for them. And winter is coming with snow, quarantine, stuck inside boredom so I figured I would ask. Who knows what might turn up.
Hey, at least I didn't ask for .38 Super Comp.
Need about 3,000 pieces of 9mm brass and about 1,000 pieces of .38 Spl. to get me through the winter reloading season. Can be brass or nickle plated, cleaned or not. Not split, blown out, crushed, steel, aluminum please.
PM to let me know what you have and how much you want for it. I'm old...
I offered to take the wife and a friend to the city this weekend to ride around and gawk, point, and laugh. Kind of like a vehicle safari.
They declined.
Hey, if you're old enough to remember party permits then you're old enough to begin NOT remembering some things. LOL. Don't let it bug ya. When you can't remember why you're standing in the bathroom.......... then it can bug ya.
^^^^^^ The good old days, in a way. Back then the county had a bounty of $5 on foxes. Cut the tail off and take it to the Sheriff's department and get the bounty. That would buy me 3 boxes of .22LR for woodchucks.
I'm dating myself here but I remember "Doe Day". Last day of the season you could take buck or doe, until then it was buck only.
Then they went to "Party Permits". You needed to be part of a "party" of X# of hunters, my area (Livingston county at the time) was 4 in the party. The entire party...
I can't fault paywalls. If you give your product away then you will soon be out of business.
On the other hand, if your product is so shitty that no one wants to pay you for it that should tell you something right there.
At my age it makes no sense at all. In a past year (I forget when, I don't retain inconsequential crap much anymore) I got my hunting, fishing, 2 doe permits and was told $20. Oh???? Alrighty then. Nice surprise.
Now USPSA, on the other hand, I'm into them big time. Became a life member in 1994...
Too damned old to even think about dragging a bear out. As it is, my deer "hunting" these days is more along the lines of the deer committing suicide than me actively pursuing them.
And fishing is situational --- gotta be the right friends and the right beer. LOL
