I have been around, IMHO going from a .308 to a 5.56 in the pile of junk M16 was not only stupid but dangerous and, now they are going back to larger rounds. I have shot both the M14/1A and the afore mentioned M16 and in the field I would take the M14/1A over the M16 every time.
