When my father was going through the NYC application process in the 1970s, it was done at the local precinct. Totally $$$ corrupt.
He used to say that once they have your name, DOB and address and take your prints, everything else is purely harassment.
Good point above. Will they still have some secret policy for the Sean Hannity types? What about the 47th Street jewelers?
Little people, they don't care about. But what about the rich people who's security guard cannot get to work because he takes the subway?
New York has always been a patchwork, and even specific counties changed policies when they changed judges. Or even when the judge changed his mind over policy issues.
Life is also about contrasts and what you are used to. I grew up in NYC when having a pistol license was incredibly rare...
I was going to pick up a gun from my aging father. I added it to my license (took 5 minutes) and then went to pick it up. The description of the gun and serial # I took to the pistol clerk was scrawled on a stickie note. No problem.
They were really good here. Not anymore, I predict.
I know, and fully understand. Especially now that there are 25 Constitutional carry states.
I am using my own experiences, in the two states I am in each and every day, with the emphasis on my day to day life.
Where I can carry, where I cannot. What I have to worry about, what I don't...
There are almost as many voters in one typical Brooklyn high-rise building than in the entire county I work in, or so it seems.
Green Wood Cemetery makes up any difference.
This.
I strongly suggest caution, because if the talk of 'bring on the laws' continues, it will divide the 2A community. What will happen is those who advocate living with the laws and fighting thru the courts will adopt a 'I don't have to outrun the bear, I have to outrun you' attitude...
Don't get so pissy right away.
I go to NY, I go to PA. In NY I have (had, I guess) an unrestricted. Same for PA. Day to day life in either state is (until September) the same as anywhere else.
Yes, many states have renewals. I have almost a dozen licenses and they all renew. Virginia...
Yes. Very much so, with no inconvenience.
Until now, in upstate counties, life was not very different from being in more pro-gun states such as PA, VT and NH.
Even post-safe act, state police recertification was pre-filled out on-line and if nothing changed since last time, just agree, submit...
Breyer was notorious for that. The oral arguments in Bruen were particularly ridiculous. He sounded like a New Jersey couple who stopped into a small town in Pennsylvania in late November. Had no idea what time of year it was.
"Oh, all these guns around. That seems so dangerous..."
They...
I already knew this, but when I saw it in print, explained eloquently, my blood ran cold. A female fetus has all the eggs she will need to create an entire family of children in her adult life by the time that female fetus is at the end of the second trimester.
Later term abortions kill...
The entire playbook is about creating dichotomies. You are hateful for flying a whatever flag, they are peaceful for burning down Kenosha. And so on, and so on...
We are dealing with forces who will de-legitimize any, ANY obstacle. The supreme court in it's current configuration is not the law of the land to them, just a speedbump.
If you know where it is, I would appreciate that. I have been looking for quite some time, and I have found everything I have been looking for except that. The only way I am sure is that the DA, judges and the sheriff walk past my post every day and don't say anything except hello.
The point of sale for ammunition is not federally regulated. No one has to obey the laws of other states as they do with firearms. Walk in to a PA gun store, pay cash, and walk out. Same with body armor.
Cop: Sir, I pulled you over for (insert chickenshit reason) but what's that locked box you have in the third row of your SUV?
You: You mean the LOCKED box?
Cop: Yes, that.
You: It's a locked box.
Cop: Would you mind opening it?
You: Well, since you asked me a question, now it's my turn...
As it stands now, DCJS will only allow already certified instructors to teach this new stuff. So already very busy trainers will have to expand their operations. I cannot imagine how that would work.
If you see handwriting on the wall, read it. If you are thinking of doing something, do it.
When you hit 'proceed to checkout,' you will have your answer.
None of it is supposed to. Much of this law will eventually be overturned, either piecemeal or all at once. Does not matter. The process is the punishment.
By then, it will be a done deal that KH will have received large donations from secret sources (most likely Bloomberg), enough to put...
I am not being sarcastic here, and I am not a liberal, either. But it is clear that this bill is racist.
I am a rural resident, and yes, I will be affected by this, and no I don't like it. But I see a number of workarounds already.
There is a carve-out for security. There is a carve-out...
Don't think that way. Please. The human experience is filled with trials and tribulations. If I were born any earlier in history I would be dead by now (age early 60s). Each generation goes through their share of advances and setbacks. This is ours. Stay in the fight.
The only positive step I can take based on all this so far is to have and display a hunting license at all times, in my case on my backpack. This will cover me if a trail I am on crosses from a 'forest' to a 'state park.'
I just wrote my employer an email stating that I am not showing up for work armed if doing so is unlawful. I will not accept "Well, they cannot do that...." as an answer.
Hello, I am new here, I just found this website and appreciate that it is here during these times. I am involved in the security industry in rural New York, and if I can be of any help please ask.
What I will tell you is that finding schools to re-certify security personnel in rural New York...
