The buffer should be heavier to help slow the blowback bolt timing , the spring and tube can be carbine length. What magazines are the dedicated lower designed for? Does the lower have an integral feed ramp?

Distortion is an issue especially with lower resolution units. You have to be aware that your day scope is focusing on a screen an inch or so away. The more the magnification, the fewer pixels you are seeing.

Luckily the resolution of the thermal is not distorted by the good glass & parallax adjust. I also have the option of using the clip ons reticle to co witness my day scope reticle. The combo works for my short range (0-200yds) application.

The cons with my setup are: FFP scope so reticle is tiny @3.5x 3.5x min magnification so I do not see the full features of the display 3.5x mag makes the menu huge

Maybe your new one will be better. I'm using a clip on behind 3.5-24 which is also not ideal but the 640res helps.

Maybe your range was incorrect? I have found that making a 10" plus crosshair with aluminum Foil tape on paper targets works really good for zeroing thermal.
