I posted a while back in the forum looking for a member of this club, but to no avail. This came in an auction lot and I initially planned on trying to get it closer to its owner. Anyhoo, if you collect pokey things or have any other reason it’s yours.
@Edwardteach72 I'm in agreement with you on the comfort of wearing it. We are quite a bit different in size, but wearing my g17 all day is comfortable. Here in today's attire. Difference is I run a MDTS pocket shield with a spare mag. And I'm 6'5, 215. So there's that as well. Oh yeah, and...
Pulled out the chicken and dumplings today. Took a while to complete the cycle. It's not something I typically eat but put of curiosity I wanted to see how it did. Freeze dried well and subsequently rehydrated well. Still just as colorless as out of the can.
It will work for most meats. Right now I have chicken and dumplings in it. Bacon isn’t recommended nor are other high fat foods, high sugar content like honey. Supposedly, pulled pork, shredded chicken, ground beef all do well.
FWIW, a friend claimed he reloaded some steel cased 9mm. He said it was hard on the dies. Not exactly sure what he saw. Guy friend. We don't use many words.
We went with the basic pump, so it will require oil filtering or changes on occasion. Otherwise electricity. Costs in the neighborhood of 1.5-$2 per run.
a basic description on how it works from their page as I’ll get too into the weeds and forget something. The vacuum it pulls is quite...
@BDinPutnam
We purchased the medium sized offering from Harvest right. I’m not aware of other companies that offer one for home use. It’s this one here
it’s not a paltry up front investment and I’ve been vacillating back and forth since around 2014, and I should have done it then. With our...
I may be stumbled on to some forgotten projectiles and after work I’ll hit the googler but was wondering if anyone had any loads they worked up for either 30-06 or 308 using M2 pull downs.
My thinking was that as the water/ice sublimates off, it will leave the minerals behind (NaCl). The way I was trying to figure out how much water to add back was by weighing it before drying and then after, figuring out the percentage weight lost in grams and then to rehydrate, add that amount...
I believe they are also a part of the UGR ration, but now I’m getting out of my lane. I just use them, not research them. ;)

@Podmonkey it is a .mil ration. They are trays of larger servings that are designed to be either heated (I think these maybe also called t rations) where the cakes are served cold. Just adds diversity. We opened up a carrot cake tray with frosting a while ago and even the wife liked it.
They...
Here is the stew after drying and then after reconstituted a portion. It was saltier than when initially cooked, which in retrospect makes alot of sense. Something to plan for in future.
Recently we acquired a home freeze dryer to accommodate our evolving food storage. When we first started out it was lots of wheat berries, beans and rice. In hindsight I would have done things differently, but that is water under the bridge. Our storage has diversified and if you have priced...
@Edwardteach72 yeah, I know of a few smiths who build AKs also, but wanted to try relatively local before I have to send it off and likely explain that we can have them here in NY if we neuter them correctly.
No photos yet, but will have some in a seperate post when I start running it. Some of the surplus sales I’ve made recently were used to purchase a freeze dryer. Will be firing it up this weekend.
Perhaps someone out there can make use of this very specific item.
Scope mount for a .454 revolver. I no longer have this plaything and I do not know what else it may fit on.
Looking for some bullets, not ammunition. Have a few places online that have it in stock, but figured I’d check here first. Ping me if you have some you are looking to offload.
just for reference, they are still available for a bit over eight cents each before shipping.
I’ve had mixed experiences at both locations, however to @Phauxtoe ‘s initial question, you would do better listing them here vs trying to trade them in at any gun shop. Just the nature of any retail business, buy low and sell high.
I’ve been less than happy with crackshot and trying to get it to calibrate, so I went back to shootoff. I need to play with some of the sensitivities but for me and my projector setup, it’s working better than crackshot. The video is of a steel challenge setup, using the Sirt AR bolt at a...
@Edwardteach72 is correct with the FAL. It is a gratifying build experience and you get introduced into the world of locking shoulders. I probably still have most of the tooling needed if you go down that route and need to borrow. Rumor has it I've build a few in my life.
You can get into screw builds vs rivet builds. The rivet build is a much more aestheticly pleasing solution. IIRC its a 20 ton press needed, if you start with AK flats you will also need to heat treat the flat. Then there are the tools for the stamping/beating of rivets. Im sitting on a couple...
