I don't know man, I'd get it done professionally unless it's a gun you really don't care about, which doesn't seem to be the case. Imo, that article had some junk-level advice and I think his methods would lead to junk-level, bubba-fudd results.
Soaking it in vinegar probably won't do anything...
I'm not much of a baker, but I did use some brewer's yeast to make no-knead beer breads a few times last year. They all came out denser than any normal bread, but always had some great flavor.
Just now made a flour tortilla dough to make tortillas tomorrow. Flour, water, a pinch of salt, and a...
It's all those other pesky Northeast states' loose gun laws to blame with all those NYers just hopping the border and collecting an arsenal.
You might well save ammo. I actually find revolvers really nice and fun training tools, especially for limited ammo training. I tend to use them specifically to work on fundamentals.
I do almost all of my dry fire with a revolver in double action and for me it's the best trigger control...
It would be nice. I've been considering a .450 Bushmaster upper for a long time, but never saw the value in it. That change to the regs would have me buy it ASAP.
Yea, I'm not so much locked into Walther as a brand, I just found that PPS perfect for what I wanted at the time. I agree with the P365 almost being too small. It's nice and I do like the trigger, but it doesn't quite fit a role for me. It's too heavy, Imo, especially fully loaded to pocket...
Neither. It's more of a long-term thing. I'm considering a 10 rd semi-auto. Right now my only semi-auto is my carry piece, which is a Walther PPS. I don't have a problem with 6-8 rds of .40 S&W, but I do eventually want something to maximize my round count. The Shield and P365 look great in 9mm...
Really glad you posted this info. I used to carry my Glock 35 AIWB, and other than the problem that I was fat so AIWB just wasn't comfortable, it was by far the best way to conceal that handgun and did a very good job of hiding a gun I couldn't conceal at 3 oclock. After losing a bunch of...
Lucky Gunner did some pretty extensive .22 gel testing, linked below.
There are only two situations I wear a 22. If my Ruger SP101 4" bbl revolver is the only handgun I bring to the range or as my sidearm for small game hunting with a 12 ga. In those cases, if I do anything else while I'm out...
Army wants to spend R&D money so their budget doesn't go down. I doubt they'll do much with the caliber. It would be a tough enough sell to get our own military to transition to .223, nevermind getting our allies to switch over when they already don't like spending a Euro cent more than they...
I'm looking to buy a good pocket flashlight and would like to see if anyone here can recommend one. I was given one at work that worked ok for light use but died on me recently. I EDCed it and realized how useful it was having a dedicated small flashlight instead of relying on my phone for...
If this would be your first revolver, get the revolver. Ammo for it won't always be more expensive. If you don't have one, the S&W 686+ with a 4" barrel is pretty perfect. It can do most things you can ask a revolver to do. Everything from self-defense, concealed carry, woods protection, target...
Very nice. I saw one at my LGS the other day and was happy they finally brought it out with a 10 rd mag for us poor folks in restricted states. I was really interested in Springfield's XD-M in 10mm, but couldn't find a 10rd option. I even e-mailed them to see if they made or were planning to...
Oh, they understand perfectly well. They understand that it doesn't matter what the effect of the law is, only the optics of it. A lemming hears "ghost guns banned", has no idea what a "ghost gun" is, but it sounds scary, automatic, fully-loaded, and murdery. That lemming is then very glad their...
Well, where they make this process stupid and convuluted, I see it as a game to beat them at. Unfortunately, we're pretty much just screwed here. The lemming majority won't vote for people who support 2A rights, "writing" my local politicians probably wastes only slightly more of their staffers'...
Gotta hate the inconsistency. Your county wants you to put "all lawful purposes" to issue a full carry. Meanwhile, putting "All lawful purposes" on a full carry application in Westchester is a waste of ink. The detective's advice to me was that you aren't trying to convince a judge that you...
Yup. Can't speak for OC, but in Westchester, the fingerprint/submit paperwork appointment was about 20 minutes standing in the office with no other applicant there waiting for someone to finish what they're doing. A few minutes before I got fingerprinted, a detective came over, looked over my...
So I went and ordered myself a S&W 642 snubbie the other day. The only thing that was stopping me from sending my Walther in to get its slide cut for a dot is that I didn't have a reasonable back-up edc piece, and the 642 should solve that just fine.
So question for anyone who has a red dot on...
Awesome. My intro to shooting was also at Cornell. I took the skeet and trap class as a Junior and bought my first shotgun a few months after graduation. Glad to see they still offer the shooting sports phys ed classes.
Like making homemade black powder, I see this as something to print out a couple of copies of and keep in case things go truly crazy. Information that's nice to have, but I'd hope to never have to use.
Did you do any fitting when you replaced the bolt? Does the bolt look like it's engaging the notches on the cylinder consistently, or a little lopsided? If a new base pin doesn't fix it, I'd say it's a job for a gunsmith who knows revolvers.
I hope you like it! I had never tried a 2-stage rifle trigger when I got it, so I didn't know what to expect. It's now my favorite trigger other than my S&W 629's single-action.
Second the LaRue MBT. My first rifle has a CMC 4.5# flat-faced single stage. I like it well enough, but it still has a tiny bit of creep before it breaks. For my first rifle, it was a huge upgrade over stock and I still think it's a great trigger, but not perfect. I got the MBT 2 Stage last year...
I felt a little bad to see an old man suffering. But given who it is, fuck'im, if he fell off a ladder in front of me, I'd leave him there and keep my "social distance".
Has to be the M16 for me just based on my familiarity with it.
But, beyond that, I would consider factors like the weight of the rifle and ammo. I want as high a round count as possible with only 5 of us and I can carry a higher number of 5.56 for a given weight than 7.62.
I like Robin's...
Ruger also came out with a 10-12 rd subcompact, the Max-9. Like the Shield Plus, they're both a little bigger than the Sig 365 and Springfield Hellcat or Kel-Tec P-11.
Handle it if you can. I thought the same thing about the funky stocks until I picked it up and it felt like some holy combination of a 1911 and a target revolver. It felt pretty close to perfect.
I noticed my LGS had a new production P210 in stock and I got to handle it. The slide feels like it's riding on ball-bearings and the grip felt nicer than any stock grip I've ever tried in a handgun. I don't own anything in 9mm and have no interest in a target pistol, but that thing was one of...
I agree with you both. There are plenty of ways to camouflage. Dress, behavior, and context all matter. As far as "grey man" goes, I guess it depends on your definition of that. I think of "gray man" as blending in specifically by appearing like an average, harmless, non-threatening...
I'd say multicam. I think just wearing a plate carrier makes you not a "gray man" anymore and if I really wanted to blend in, I'd rather a camo pattern close to the environment than a solid color that's close to the environment. Neither are going to hide you, but the brain really does seem a bit...
New Results in Subcompact .40 S&W
Notes: I have very little carry ammo left and wanted to use some for drills, hence the poor sample sizes for the factory loads.

I loved the drop leg holster at the range for pistol qual but I never got issued a pistol to carry around. Seems kinda hate it or love it from the people I've talked to that have actually had to walk around, get in and out of vehicles, and go about their daily lives with it.
I use the Hodgdon website, the Reloading Assistant app, the Hornady app (nice because you can buy load data ala carte for any caliber you actually load for), and Loaddata.com which features data from Handloader magazine. Those are my data sources, but I also have "The Beginner's Guide to...
