Can someone who has had the experience tell me the approximate cost of shipping an 11 pound bolt action rifle from NY
to Florida via UPS. Just the shipping exclusive FFL fees please.
Can someone tell me how the pellet pattern of a 20 gauge shotgun with no choke compares to a 12 gauge with a choke?
Assume 1 oz loads in both cases. Seems to me the narrower barrel of the 20 gauge provides a natural "choke" no?
I understand, when brining my gun to the range, it must be unloaded, locked and in trunk and ammo separated from the gun e.g. in the
passenger compartment. I also understand that the ammo may not be loaded in a magaizine. I have two questions and PLEASE refrain from
voicing opinions of the laws...
The reason why was that my custom stock with pistol grip does not encase the mainspring area as does the OEM stock.
Luckily I saved the original and have re-installed.
Found the problem. At least on mine. The mainspring retaining pin had slid partly out of one hole loosening the spring tension and, consequetly, reducing the hammer strike. Crazy it should have happened at all.
Started experiencing light strikes on my 12 ga Maverick.
Pulled apart and thoroughly cleaned everything.
Problem persisted but to lesser degree.
CRO noticed that after the first shot the safety button moved slightly to the safe position.
Pressing safety button back in seems to fix it.
Could this...
Thanks for your reply. Took the gun apart and cleaned everything even though it was not dirty. Think you may be right about needing an extra strenghth ejector spring. If you can remember the manufacturer please send a note. Thanks.
I have a relatively new (2020) Marlin 1894C in 357/38. I am very pleased with its side gate ejection and ease of disassembly. Lately, however, the case ejection is weak, sometimes requiring tilting the rifle to the right to avoid jams. Do others exeprience this? If so what is the fix? Thank you.
Almost 2 weeks and still no part from Savage. They emailed me that the required part, a small spring for the bolt, was "restricted"
and could only be sent to my FFL. Don't understand that but WTH they live in a blue state so who knows. My FFL contacted them and Savage told them they would ship...
As I await parts from Savage (and Godot) I have been surfing the net for other solutions. One post suggested finger placement on the Savage AccuTrigger could impact firing pin striking force. I tried this with a half dozen snap caps. Results were interesting but counter-intuitive. The higher I...
Update: Savage replied to my service request. They say the problem is the gun's firing pin needs new springs. They will only send these to an FFL to install (unless I send them the whole gun) which I don't understand but OK. Will let you know if these fix the problem.
Thank you all for your suggestions. Working thru them. Alos, still wating for Savage service to reply. Beginning to doubt they will.
Will let you know what solution I find as this is not an uncommon problem.
I have a Savage Axis II Precision in 308. I experience FTFs on several brands of ammo. Examination of the failed cartridge indicates
a light strike on the primer. See pic. Light as compared to the indents on my other 308 rifles. The firing pin protrusion appears to be in spec at
.059", though...
Thank you all. Most have been very helpful and confirmed what many have already said. NYC, NJ, DC to be avoided. MD was a bit of a surprise. but can be avoided.
A western NY thru PA is doable.
Again my thanks.
Q: Is it legal to drive my long guns from NY to Georgia?.
The guns are compliant in both states.
I am a NY resident with a GA home.
I have a GA CCW.
I drive straight through with the locked guns in my trunk.
There is no ammo in the car.
I do not stop or leave the car unattended.
