I too have Nikons, 3 of 'em. 2 Prostaff 4x12x40, 1 Buckmasters 3x9x40. I decently picked up a little Vortex 2X7x32 for my old Ruger 10/22. The Vortex clarity/crispness, blows all 3 Nikons away. It's Vortex from here on out, unrivaled value, models for all budgets. Hope this helps.

You're definitely on the right track with 45acp for auto carry/use. It's the ONLY serious, viable SD option, without using Magnum force. Buy a quality 1911, you'll want for nothing else. You picked a bad time to buy, as every @$$hole on the planet is gouging right now. The Colt Comp Series...

While I like my Surefire X300's, I think the Streamlights are a better value. Streamlight has a lot of new models out there right now, just got one of their new 1k lumen lights for wifey's MP15-22, she loves it! Bright as hell, easy activation. Good Luck scouting one out.
