By 76-14%, voters say a new law requiring a permit to get a semi-automatic rifle – including being at least 21, passing a background check and taking a safety course – will be good for New York. By a similar 79-15% margin, voters want to see the Supreme Court uphold New York’s decades-old law requiring a license to carry a concealed handgun, according to a new Siena College poll of registered New York State voters.


A new law enhancing legal protections for individuals seeking or performing abortions in New York will be good for the state, 63-19%. By 60-24%, voters want the Supreme Court to uphold the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and declare Mississippi’s abortion law unconstitutional. Governor Kathy Hochul has a 46-37% favorability rating, compared to 44-34% in April. Her job performance rating is 41-52%, up from 36-57% in April, and 46% are prepared to re-elect her in November, compared to 44% who want ‘someone else,’ up from 40-45% in April.

I totally believe this poll, and yes it includes people with pistol permits.
I have said before that the current case in the Supreme Court probably won't do a thing about the illegal, unconstitutional Sullivan Law or Pistol Permit Scheme in NY. It may remove "restrictions" in NY City.

However, this changes things.
This new "law" puts semi-auto rifles on the same plain as our current pistol permit scheme. This is a boom for NRA Instructors and FFLs. (Wow! who woulda thunk it)

Many NY'ers including current pistol permit holders don't have a problem with the illegal, unconstitutional Sullivan Law or Pistol Permit Scheme in NY. This poll shows how stupid and conditioned NY'ers have become. After all the Sullivan Law was created in 1911. 122 years ago.

Most NY'ers including gun owners think it is the same way everywhere else.
They are ignorant of the fact that in the other states, buying a handgun is no different than buying a shotgun like you would in NY. Now that ignorance has morphed into we are going to regulate the shit out of not just handguns, but we will start with semiauto rifles, Bolts and shotguns will be along in a few years.

The NY gun laws on pistols is an example of the slippery slope of gun control. The 1911 Sullivan law was only a concealed carry permit. It was not needed to purchase or possess. There was no pistol registrations or you could only posses those pistols on your permit. That I believe that was added in the 1960’s. When I was adding pistols to collection in the 1980’s, there was no amendment wait time. I walked into county clerks office with dealer sales receipt, walked out with it on permit. Private sale we both walked into clerks office, she took it off his permit and added to mine. The county clerks office would attend major gun shows, You could buy a pistol, add to your permit and take possession without leaving the building.

These are generational changes and the gun grabbers are playing the long game.

We have been seeing this playbook being run on “assault weapons”. Safe act. Now safe act two. More restrictions on ARs. Then let’s bring all semi autos under the ban. Then NY compliant ARs are no longer compliant. Restriction and registration. You can see the end game.

I moved out of NY just before safe act. Planned to move back on retirement, but chose PA instead.

Most people don’t realize how hard and arbitrary the permit system is. Most think the permit system is like in other states where you fill out A FORM,( not a book of forms) and later you get your permit. Sort of like a passport or TSA pre-check.
The best case that SCOTUS will do in this case is make NYS a “ shall issue” state
