Yup. The city and/or state will raise taxes beyond what the landlords are allowed to raise rents and then the landlords will have to eat the difference.

Unfortunately people would screw themselves but I'd like to see it played out this way. If the state won't allow landlords to raise rents to cover the tax increase then the landlords should stop paying the taxes. Once all the properties are seized by the banks or counties then we'll see how long these "rent control" laws last.

In fairness, it also disincentives landlords from maintaining or improving their properties.

So those people also get to live in deteriorating shitholes. Which the politicians blame on capitalist slumlords.

No need to squeeze on taxes. The real plan is to have the city seize buildings with open violations (because landlords can't afford to fix them). Count on that in next year's session.

Of course the buildings will then be sold in sweetheart deals to DiBozo's cronies.
