I thought a ghost gun was a gun you could build with slight machining with no serial # from simple off the shelf parts, it looks like this bill is talking about a gun that goes undetected in equipment used for security . Even if you could build a gun unseen by the security equipment there would be no way to manufacture a bullet to be invisible.
§ 265.55 CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF AN UNDETECTABLE FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOT-
GUN.
A PERSON IS GUILTY OF CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF AN UNDETECTABLE FIREARM,
RIFLE OR SHOTGUN WHEN HE OR SHE KNOWINGLY POSSESSES:
1. ANY FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN THAT, AFTER THE REMOVAL OF GRIPS,
STOCKS AND MAGAZINES, IS NOT DETECTABLE BY A METAL DETECTOR CALIBRATED
TO DETECT THE SECURITY EXEMPLAR, AS DEFINED PURSUANT TO 18 U.S.C. §
922(P); OR
2. ANY MAJOR COMPONENT OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN THAT, IF SUBJECT
TO THE TYPES OF DETECTION DEVICES COMMONLY USED AT AIRPORTS FOR SECURITY
SCREENING, DOES NOT GENERATE AN IMAGE THAT ADEQUATELY DISPLAYS THE SHAPE
OF THE COMPONENT.
So...are all polymer AR-15 lowers and polymer pistol frames going to be banned? Or, do these lowers, with their internals installed (hammers, triggers, locking blocks, rails, etc) have enough of "an image that adequately displays the shape of the component" to allow them to remain legal?
This is also idiotic because you cannot fire a projectile with a lower receiver or frame, no matter how "invisible" it is to xray. I do not know of any truly functional pistols or rifles that have reliable polymer upper receivers or slides, let alone polymer barrels.
It's a grandstanding bill, it's already a federal law that states a firearm/gun whatever has to have a specific amount of metal in it that would be detected
A classic. I thought it was especially funny when he said "it goes from this to this" and it was still a stripped lower lol. So when it was black the anti was upped! The anodization made it way worse. Just more proof that they're scary because they're black. Oh and the "internets". SMH.
Uh yeah. BTW, did you know if a type of incident occurring goes from one event in one year to 4 events the next year, that’s a 300% increase. Isn’t it fun to manipulate math boys and girls?
I will so let the online lawyers review this in detail, but from what I scanned through, I do feel safer living in NY. I grabbed a few sections after which I stopped as going further potentially would lower my IQ to that of a NY politician.
So they define major components and these have to be detectable. So I guess I need to stop using plastic barrels?
-a. "Major component of a firearm, rifle or shotgun" means the
4 barrel, the slide or cylinder, the frame, or receiver of the firearm,
5 rifle, or shotgun.
SNIPPED OUT BECAUSE READING THIS GAVE ME BRAIN AIDS.
10 A person is guilty of criminal manufacture, sale, or transport of an 11 undetectable firearm, rifle or shotgun when he or she knowingly manufac- 12 tures, causes to be manufactured, sells, exchanges, gives, disposes of, 13 transports, ships, or possesses with the intent to sell:
14 1. any firearm, rifle or shotgun that, after the removal of grips,
15 stocks and magazines, is not detectable by a metal detector calibrated 16 to detect the Security Exemplar, as defined pursuant to 18 U.S.C.
SNIPPED MORE BECAUSE POLITICIANS SUCK AND THRIVE ON PASSING LAWS WHICH SOLVE A NON-EXISTING PROBLEM
2. any major component of a firearm, rifle or shotgun that, if subject 2 to the types of detection devices commonly used at airports for security 3 screening, does not generate an image that adequately displays the shape 4 of the component.
Is the metal serial number plate enough in a Glock lower for the metal detectors to read it? If not, there is no problem. Even polymer80 lowers have metal in it.
