What about 80% imitation guns ?So let's be clear on a few things. This is General Business Law. It's bullshit, but this is NOT penal law.
This has to do with the SALE of these imitation weapons in the first place into the state. It is not changing the penal law definition of a firearm. This portion is not changing:

New York Consolidated Laws, General Business Law - GBS § 872 | FindLaw
New York General Business Law GBS NY GEN BUS Section 872. Read the code on FindLawcodes.findlaw.com
Once the sale is complete, there is nothing preventing you from doing what you wish with the "imitation weapon" so long as you are not brandishing it in public outside an airsoft field.
Also, this is the maximum penalty if they even want to pursue it: New York Consolidated Laws, General Business Law - GBS § 873 | FindLaw
The max penalty for bringing such a firearm into the state without the orange markings required in the first place, is $1000 if pursued. It does not list a criminal penalty only a civil fine.
I would think no, but they are smarter than me.So what about airguns (pellet guns)? I use those to small game hunt. Does that mean that is now illegal? Or will this prohibit me from purchasing these said devices online?
I read the bill and it is extremely confusing and vague.
Who has the time to come up with this shit?
Still don't care. The bill has passed the legislature.
It's all about erasing our gun culture. There is a reason for this. If kids don’t play with guns they think it’s out of sight out of mind and they won’t want one when they grow up. Any truth to it? I haven’t researched it, but there’s a reason for this. Same reason we say take a kid shooting.
Ummm....yawn?
Another solution in search of a problem.
Personally, I can't wait until the police actually arrest someone for practicing with an airsoft Glock pistol in their backyard when that same person is legally permitted to own and carry a real Glock pistol. Try explaining to a jury that the "imitation" Glock pistol is especially dangerous in the hands of someone who is permitted by the State of New York to carry a real firearm. I'll volunteer to be on that jury...or, just to watch the trial with popcorn and a soda.
The problem is that vendors are already scared to ship airsoft "firearms" to New York. Try ordering from Amazon. Many airsoft pistols and rifles come up as "unable to ship to your area" when added to a checkout basket.Once again this applies to the dealing of these "imitation weapons" not ownership. This is general business law, not penal law. It sucks, but it has virtually no bearing once you're in possession of the the imitation weapon. You can paint or remove all such markings if you're not dealing in these things, and the max penalty, as I stated above, is $1000. This does almost nothing to effect how airsoft guns are sold and used in this state. It's "feel good" legislation.

Other airsoft vendors will still ship, though.
