My ex wife was native Chinese . This was one of the hot sauces that she often used . I still use it on occasion .
"not for the faint of heart. " . She had a dumpling sauce that she used it in and also on noodles . Walk into an Asian grocery and there are a lot of foods that we as westerners would not think of using . eel. bamboo shoots ... ect . Different canned fish . ... Beans and rice folks will get pretty boring after a few months .
I also have several cook books on authentic Chinese cooking " in English " Many of these recipes could be centuries old and used by the common folk ... ... The same goes for say a Russian cook book . There are hundreds of different types of breads alone used in Eastern Europe.... Order different types of wheat and say rye one could mill and it could be a real game changer long term .

Good point. I dont have rice and beans in my stockpile. Lots of canned food and mountain house. Im a picky eater though.

I have been through a lot of Places with street food venders all over the place. I cannot say I have eaten at most of them. I have a hard time eating from places that I don't know the cook or the culture. After we caught Afgan locals trying to poison our food in the dining facility, I try not to eat in strange places anymore.

After we caught Afgan locals trying to poison our food in the dining facility, I try not to eat in strange places anymore.

How did you, um, deal with them? On another note, I will never eat from a street vendor, even in the States after living in NYC. Lived in Hell's Kitchen years ago and the street cart vendors kept their carts below my apartment. At night the rats and cats would crawl all over them. In the morning if they got a quick hosing, I would be surprised.

Southeast Asia has some of the best street food on earth, Vietnam being the best.
Peru and Chile also have great street food.
Most American street food is now served from food trucks and is very trendy and expensive....good but expensive.
