We have 2 with spare parts.... Have had the glass break . Use one everyday and use thermos to take to work. If in a grid down situation a thermos would be a must have item. One would save on a lot of fuel. having hot drinks all dayI didn’t watch the video yet but the 1st thing I learned was to get a non- electric coffee pot

A #10 tin can or your basic steel 3# coffee can makes a nice bio fuel burner. You can burn small pieces of dried wood that you break up with your hands. With hammer, punch and tin snips/aviation snips you can make it nice and fancy with bottom combustion air holes. You can do same with Swiss Army knife can opener. Punch holes with a K-Bar if needed. Understand the concepts and be creative. Look up hobo stove.

I scrounge and store all sizes of cans for sheet metal. Only about two milk crates worth up in my garage rafters. I'm always picking up cheap stuff at garage sales just in case. People practically give candles away at garage sales. The paraffin as picked up on the cheap is a great plan B fuel and light source. Funny the stuff people throw away.I'll keep the next coffee can I use. Normally I use them for ashes from the weber and then fill with water / tape it off and chuck it, but I might keep the next one and try this.
I didn't know there is a series.I need to get and read the next 2 books in this series
Neither did I until 2 weeks ago.I didn't know there is a series.
Ordered the next book off the muddy-river.Neither did I until 2 weeks ago.
One Year After
The Final Day
Better than plan B. Old school camping articles and BSA camping manuals had a number of uses for old candles or wax beads / bars.People practically give candles away at garage sales. The paraffin as picked up on the cheap is a great plan B fuel and light source. Funny the stuff people throw away.
Do it. They're goodI need to get and read the next 2 books in this series
I had the first book for almost 10 years. I don’t read books. Never liked doing it. This past March I decided it was time. I couldn’t put it downDo it. They're good
Yeah the wife and I talked about having an old style car but I’ve got no place to store that. I really know nothing about surviving with little to nothing in supplies but this book makes you thinkReading these books made me realize how much I would appreciate having some setup like a solar generator tucked away in a faraday cage. I could also put in a small electric cooler or travel fridge as well. Being able to keep insulin cold, have power for recharging radios and comms, devices for kids, lights, etc would be worth it's weight in gold.
I haven't gotten around to it yet but it's on my list of things to do. I was relatively confident I could do it this year until inflation went crazy and my discretionary income I was planning to use evaporated.

What’s a ECU?Then take a step back...
If you have a vehicle you like and plan on keeping for awhile instead of buying an entire old car, just go to the junkyard and pull out a spare ECU from a similar vehicle and store it in a faraday cage. You can make a faraday cage easily out of a metal garbage can.
Now that I'm talking about this I wonder why I haven't done it myself yet.
What’s a ECU?
I’ll go to YouTube for the garbage can faraday cage info
The electronic brain of your car. It's the part most likely to get fried in an EMP or CME.
just get a large galvanized steel garbage can and lid. Line it with cardboard because you don't want anything inside it touching the metal can.
Put things inside that you want to protect. You can also wrap these items first in cardboard or something non conductive and then tightly wrap over that with aluminum foil.
Then place in the garbage can and attach the metal lid. Seal the seam of the lid to can with metal tape to complete a thorough seal and ensure that any electrical waves have the ability to conduct around the outside like a shield but not get in.
