Funny story from some years and years ago...

I'm in a bookstore, B&N I believe and looking for some specific Martial Arts book, reading and looking up and down. Didn't find my book, but there was a book there that caught my eye. Out of place, wrong isle, etc., was John Wiseman - SAS Survival Handbook. Read thru quickly, skipping through, but seemed a decent book. Alas, wasn't what I was there for, so input it back where I found it. Well, it was a day or two later, and in an entirely different bookstore, and looking for the same Martial Arts book, would ya believe, there it was again, out of place, seemingly looking for me, but the SAS Survival book, hahahaha. I don't believe in coincidence, so I bought the book, have it digital as well and a small (really small) pocket version. I've read through it at least once per year, lol, just to keep things in mind. A book I recommend.

I really need to spend more time learning human psychology under starvation conditions. That was even more alarming than I had already thought.

Definitely want to spend more time learning about this and trying to predict how poorly people now a days would behave

There is no one size fits all plan for all the different situations.

2005 Katrina lessons taught us that even local government breaks down. LEO's go home, Fire....EMS....gone. You will be left to provide for yourself and family until some form of help arrives.

In a real and rare SHTF situation, if you aren't part of a community based plan encompassing a wide range of skills sets within that community, you're toast. This idea that a single family or man can fend off dozens of people is stuff movies are made of. Don't buy into that failing plan. "Oh but I have farm animals and crops..." yeah yeah, set one foot out that door and you won't even hear the shot.

That's reality.

Anyway, in either case, don't be the only guy not losing weight after weeks of no food. That's a red flag.

People practically give candles away at garage sales

Old candle wax plus paper egg cartons (cut individual cups apart after they cool) and paper from our shredder makes great fire starters. One of them will also reliably light up a chimney full of charcoal for the smoker/grill.

I have a coffee can of old birthday candles and candle stubs for collecting wax just for this application.
