I think its more devious than that. I think they know their laws dont stop the bad guys. They know it only further restricts the 2a and the law abiding, and they want these tragedies to happen to help further restrict the 2a and the law abiding.

Putting on my GunSense™ Hat,

They didn't need one.

The shooter entered the 2nd dance hall, and was disarmed.
This event clearly shows that if you have a gun, the other party will just take it away and use it against you.

The people in the 1st location didn't realize that they could do this, sadly, probably because the NRA said it's really hard to take someone's gun away.

Still, this goes to show why law abiding citizens should not carry guns, and why criminals should be armed to the teeth.
The joke will be on the criminals, since when they try to kill or rob you, you can just take the gun away and use it against them, as is what happened at the second location.
It's just Common GunSense™.
