10 Round Mag That Holds 11

The last time I was at the range, I decided to run a few rounds through my carry gun. Since I am a cheapskate, I unloaded the good ammo so I could load up some reloads. I started popping rounds out of one of the magazines and was counting along 1, 2, 3.....9, 10, 11. Wait, what? Eleven??

Since we haven't ̶a̶r̶g̶u̶e̶d̶.... er, debated any nonsense in a while, does anyone want to weigh in on the possible legal implications of inadvertently loading 11 rounds into a commercially manufactured, unmodified 10 round magazine? I could see my miscounting and cramming an extra round in there causing trouble if the authorities ever had reason to count. But how about the "10" round magazine having the ability to accept more than 10 rounds?

Any thoughts?

The thing that you should worry most about is does the gun still run right with 11+1?

If it were me I'd make a big stink about it with the manufacturer and see what I could get free from them.

Put a spring from another magazine that works correctly in it. If it still holds 11, try the follower. If it still holds 11 with the spring and follower that works correctly in the good magazine, then you know the magazine body is out of spec.

After that, you can add something in it that won't allow the extra round and use it for range use only or just chuck it.

I'd personally chuck it if a good spring and follower didn't rectify the situation. I wouldn't risk reliability or a slight possible chance of getting caught with 11 in it by accident. If I was willing to take the risk, I'd carry a standard magazine that'll hold 5 or 7 rounds more or a full 30 if it was a rifle.

It's not worth having for 1 extra round for carry in my opinion. I'm speaking for myself only. If taking a risk is okay for me, I'd go big rather than small.

It works perfectly with 11+1! I'm not saying how I know though.

I view it as a feature and not a defect. But will still only keep 10 in there. Once I count more than one hand worth though, who knows how many I'm going to wind up with.

I have a Glock mag that I can get 11 into. But I need to use my upela loader and force it. I only know this because I was loading mags and I was one bullet short for the last mag, so I unloaded them and found one had 11. A couple of other guys have mentioned this happening so its not all that uncommon. If not using a loader you probably would not have this happen.

Somehow a guy stuffed 11 in a 10 round G34 mag at an IDPA shoot. I was his RSO and on the LAMR his slide dropped only as far as the top round in the magazine. He wanted to slam it into battery, but I made him stop and unload...sure enough, ll rounds loaded into a 10 round mag. That was the only time I have heard of 11 in a 10, until now. Time for a new follower, or the correct one maybe? I know that it's easy to confuse all the different followers. I have known of gamers who shorten the "legs" on followers to get an extra round in, but C'MON MAN!!!

According to the fbi if you did it inadvertently its not a crime.


The reality, 11 is 11 if you got caught. But its made to hold 10 so tgere would have to be a reason for someone to count the rounds. If your concerned just put 10 in it.

Yea, it does appear a bit pekid OR peaked (depending on how ya want to say it!!)!

It's actually a sand color, the picture makes it look washed out.

I have herd that 40 cal glock mags work fine with 9 mm and you can end up with extra that way. I dont own any 40 cal stuff so I cant confirm. Just think of getting 11 into a mag by accident and not realizing it and catching a felony over the 1 round.
