Gunman kills 16 in rampage, deadliest in Canadian history

ORONTO (AP) — A gunman disguised as a police officer went on a rampage across the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, shooting people in their homes and setting fires, leaving 16 people dead Sunday, in the deadliest such attack in the country’s history. Officials said the suspected shooter was also dead.

A police officer was among those killed. Several bodies were found inside and outside one home in the small, rural town of Portapique, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) north of Halifax — what police called the first scene. Bodies were also found at other locations. Authorities believe the shooter may have targeted his first victims but then began attacking randomly.
Overnight, police began advising residents of the town — already on lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic — to lock their doors and stay in their basements. Several homes in the area were set on fire as well.

Interesting that, in a Country with extreme anti-gun laws, and hundreds of miles away from the US border, this guy was able to get a gun, uniform, and make his vehicle look like a police car.

I saw a pic of his "cop car". To me it looked exactly like an RCMP sedan. Decals and everything were spot on, same wheels, etc.

This crime is so well executed, so impossible to control against it has me believe there's nothing we can learn from it. In society some are evil and there are at times nothing to be done.

Well, if more of the people he was shooting at had been able to shoot back it might have offered a means of "controlling against".

My guess is they didn't identify the type of gun for the same reason they don't identify the race of some criminals.

I'm actually surprised that modern sporting rifles weren't already banned in Canada. I'm not familiar with Canadian gun laws at all however, I would've thought they would've been restricted a long time ago.

I always have to scratch my head at the argument that these "Assault Weapons" are only designed for one purpose 'to kill the maximum number of people in the shortest amount of time'. Then why the fuck do the police have them? Is their mission to kill lots of people? The picture in the article shows a bunch of RCMP all jocked up like they're rolling into Ramadi. That is always my argument.

Why do the police need 30 round mags to protect the hot dog cart and Lego store across from my work but I don't need them to protect my family at home?

There is no good answer to this question because it is non-rebuttable unless they make the admission that anti-gunners simply don't trust you and/or don't really give a fuck about you.
