Not as big as the one that little gal from Kansas got but I bet I appreciate it every bit as much. Maybe a couple hours tomorrow and I'm done. Well, I'll be switching to other things, got to have an excuse to be out there.
I hear you. I missed once but I still feel like a jerk for it. It was nearly a perfect shot, well position and shot was bad.
next year I have plans. I’m cutting paths in the thick brush and putting up a Cadillac of a perch to shoot from. I heard and saw deer all around me in the thick brush just never had shots. I saw 11 deer and heard probably another 6-7 walking through the brush. Had one shot. If I get up high I figure I’ll double my chances.
I went for a 2 mile walk this afternoon on a farm I recently got invited to hunt on.
I only saw fresh tracks from 2 deer, and the tracks crossed over the property line and left. I’m grateful to the landowner but I’m not sure how much I’ll bother with the place in the future. It seems like the whole place gets quite a bit of hunting pressure. There’s tree stands scattered everywhere and there’s not very much deer sign.
I don’t mind though. I had a great season. I filled my freezer, I killed a wall-hanger, and best of all, It was my daughter’s first season and she got her first deer.
I saw a coyote around noon yesterday, he crossed the road in front of me and loaded along a winter wheat field, the poor thing must have the mange, his coat was very wispy at best and should be thick and lush by now. I generally don't like them but don't like seeing that fate for them either.
