It's never too soon for up coming the hunting season. In this case, that would be Turkey. I made a couple new calls for this spring, still tuning them up. I also made the equivalent of a sixteen gauge left handed fowling gun, just a bit more engraving I'm done, well I still have to decide whether to jug choke it or not and won't know till I take it out for a patterning session.
Last years call's work fine but, what the heck, more good juju!
I am going to take a stab at spring Turkey myself this year. Last year for the first time not only were they actually around during season but they were practically daring me to shoot them (all over the yard and especially the bird feeder 20 yards from the backdoor).
Turkey hunting is fun. Ive only gone 2 or 3 times in places where we had previously heard them. Ive never shot one but have called them in every time we have been out. Called them in using a Primos box call similar to what Robin has been making (took lessons from youtube on how to use the call). Problem is,,,they were Hens that came in and I couldnt shoot,,,,wrong part of the season.
Thats why I enjoy Duck, Goose and coyote season,,,,,,,,,I like being able to call things in.
