I am guaranteed one because I'm a disabled veteran and the other one I think I was just lucky.

I haven't hunted grays in at least 15-20 years. I might have to get out there and see if what y'all are saying is true, about a squirrel 'shortage'.

I'll bring my new Benelli Monte 20 gauge along, with improved modified choke, some Winchester Super-X high brass 6's, and see about this here shortage for my own self.

I have a "secret weapon", a decades-old P.S. Olt Squirrel call. It's a contented feeding call. Plus a few other tricks up my sleeve.

I'll post pics.

Sure don't miss skinning the little bastards tho.

I think tree rats are harder to skin than deer. Tough hides that just don't want to let go (I need to try the stand on the tail and pull the feet method one of these days).

I remove feet, head and tail, pinch a fold of skin on the middle of back, slice thru it and yank both ways.

I have 3M and 7S. Picked up the 7S in case I get time to get up to my brother's place. So far, I still have no confirmed place to go. I will likely end up sitting at Stewart enjoying the fresh air like I did last year. At least with the infrequent flights, the odor of jet fuel isn't as strong

Found it, ye olde P.S. Olt squirrel call, circa 1979. It was a minor miracle, considering I have a really bad habit of simply placing my orders on the floor of the walk in closet upstairs, instead of putting it all away.

I think I’ve given up on shooting squirrels it’s too easy and I hate cleaning them for the meat I get out of it. I hunt small game but mostly alone I’m not ideal spots so it’s more of a walk in the woods since I have no dog. Every once in a while I get lucky and spot a rabbit that decided to stand still instead of run or a grouse. I’ll get bored here and there and shoot some squirrels but most times I just ignore them. Now turkeys I like but they seem to come and go from my parents property. I have not been able to track the pattern yet but seems it’s every other year with opposite ends of spring and fall. I’ll call turkey hunt this year but I saw a bunch last fall so I’m not expecting to see them this year in the fall but next spring. Has anyone else noticed anything like this?

We have had a shortage of turkeys for the last 6-7 years here due to repeated rainy damp cold springs. This year was warm and dry for good poult survival. Seeing many more flocks while driving so I'm encouraged.

I received my license and DMP tags for 9H in the mail last Friday. Did some very stealthy scouting last Saturday and had to do an emergency tree stand relocation because the tree my stand was in got blown over in a heavy wind rain storm.

I bought one of these over fifty years ago and it still works.
The old George Herters catalog was as thick as a phone book and every February I would be in great anticipation awaiting its arrival. He had more hunting and fishing good's, and do it your self raw materials than every other outdoor catalog combined, it was good stuff too!!! Heck, just reading the advertisements and Georges anecdotes were as entertaining as hell!!!!!!

Well @Kent Goldings ...ima hand you the trophy. Try as I might, I can't motivate myself to get out there and squirrel hunt anymore. The whole time I'd likely be praying I didn't get one to skin and eat.

Hats off to you for getting out there sir, and enjoying the great outdoors.

To focus on the positive, you motivated me to get my turkey hunting gear in order and ready for Oct. 16th.
