I see this every time I leave hunting camp and fail to get a deer. There is a field that is t posted about 1/2 mile from my camp that has 20-30 deer in it every night I leave.

I’m heading out late tomorrow afternoon then I’m hunting Sunday. I’ll get there and set up my blind, and check a camera or two and figure out where I’m sitting. Likely in the blind crossing the creek. The stand hasn’t produced this year since they are hitting the other side of the brush. I can hear them going through that and crossing the creek where my blind is. I can hear the rocks getting over turned. I have to cut some channels in the brush so I can see them in the bedding area. I moved my camera to the area where they are crossing the creek so I can get timing down, but seems like 7:30am-9:30 is the sweet spot.

I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to get out at all this weekend. My back is giving me fits when I stand too long, and that’s about all my hunting will entail as I don’t trust the stands that are being used on the property.

Yesterday I saw a bunch of car parts, including a piece of plastic bumper, in the road in front of my house. Then my dogs found a HUGE doe dead in the woods just off the road. She was down a slope so I didnt see her at first.

I passed up a healthy looking spike horned buck this morning. Figured he needed a couple more years growth. Other than him, I saw only an annoying tree rat!

I’ll be at camp on 30 minutes. I’ll set up my blind then hunt the morning. I’ll bring my gun to set up the blind, but it’s a short walk so I’m not hopeful for that. I’ll adjust my spot and I sure do hope that beefy 8-point walks by. That would be a nice first deer.

Only saw 2 gray squirrels today. It was the quietest opening day I can remember. Only heard maybe a dozen shots all day.

Likely did not get a pass through. All the blood stayed inside. Deer probably didn't go more than 50 yards if it was a good hit. What bullet?
If you don't have coyotes where you are, go back first light and do another search in a circle pattern from where it ran into the thicket. Be sure to look under everything. I once had one run and found it deep under a briar bush

Within the range of my hard of hearing ears, I counted 50 shots before 9am this morning...many where multiple shots from the same gun! One volley was 7 shots! He must be adhering to FUAC's declaration! I don't ever shoot at a running deer! Have never had to take more than 1 shot!

I heard three shots this morning that all my parents heard from Friday to Saturday. Yep Friday.
I have two nice bucks sniffing around. On beefy 4- pt and a nice 8 pt. I’m in a valley and I keep hearing shots higher up. One more just went off, but pretty far off again.
Probably doesn’t help my dad was cutting tile here all day yesterday. Then when they were leaving they were yelling to each other. They don’t get it. I told my dad all spring and summer I’d take off two days and we could work for four days and get it done. Nope. Nest weekend he’s doing the floor so I’m going elsewhere. Every morning my mom walks the hunting trails too. I told her o was setting up my stand and staying away for a month. I thought that would be a hint. Nope. A few weeks ago I was checking my camera cards and she comes up yelling my name. WTF women. Seriously.

I think I found the fisher cat den. I will try to trap it when I get my license. It’s a brushy rocky outcropping along the creek. Lots of holes and burrows and I just saw I swimming in the creek and coming in and out of the holes.

Saw 10 doe and 1 small mutant buck yesterday. The mutant buck must have been a yearling from its size the antlers were 4” or 5” on one side and a little 2” twisted antler on the other.
Saw a big boy 8 point in a field coming out of the woods this morning, unfortunately there was no shot for me. I don’t do hail marry shots. All in all It was a good weekend as far as I’m concerned hunting with a very good family friend of mine.

Saw a pair of does on opening day , ….in the yard of the corner house on the way out of the woods.
We had a staring contest…lol
~My old body is not cooperating . Last wk of bow must have got to me, I have to take a few days off to rest.
It’s hard to believe I used to hike miles for a single hunt ; anyways~
I saw several young bucks last wk, hopefully they make it til next yrs. bow season.

My wife and I were in the shooting house from 6a-10a. In that entire time we heard a total of 6 shots, all distant and spaced 20-30 minutes apart. Never heard a quieter opening weekend in my life.
Saw 3 or 4 gray squirrels, 2 very close so I know that we were doing a very good job sitting quiet and still. 1 even buried a prize 8 feet in front of us.
Taking this afternoon off and back into it tomorrow morning. A cold rainy snowy front is going to come thru and that will likely be a Godsend.

I saw zero deer today. I heard one grunting but never laid eyes on him
As usual no deer for me and leaving camp I saw 20-30 deer in this one field. That’s my FU on the way home.
