My son in law was blowing leaves in his yard and 3 doe were bedded down watching him.
Yesterday, my daughter put her dog out and he walked up to a 4 pt that's in her yard almost every night. Deer didn't even get up. Just snorted at him

My 27 year old stepson popped his buckcherry tonight. He's had his hunting license since he was 16 but girls , concerts, and parties have always come before hunting. Today his cousin got him out and set him up with his first deer ever.
I think he just found out what he's been missing.

This buck just checked into the big buck contest I'm in. ( he takes first place now).
Was taken just North of you on state land. Was told his dad dropped him off and 6 minutes later he had his shot.

My daughter has a "chunky boi" (as she calls it) spike going on 4pt that beds down in her yard regularly. She let her dog out the other day and he walked to within 10-15' of the deer. He didn't even get up, just snorted at the dog.
She has a doe and two yearling fawns that come through her yard just about every day. Today they were at her front porch. Yesterday, my son-in-law was blowing leaves out of the back yard and practically had to go around the three doe that were bedded down there. They didn't care how much noise he was making.

You’re not doing anything wrong.
I’m not a master. But, I’ve logged more than 60 hunting hours since October. I’ve observed a grand total of 15 deer and one had one shot opportunity.
As for today, it’s pretty hard getting up to snow and a 22 degree windchill . I slept in and didn’t get out until 8 AM. I decided to scout instead of stand. I walked about five miles and only saw a single set of tracks that I couldn’t follow through a meadow.
I want to get at least one more deer, Either a 2 or 3 year old. I’m going to hunt for the buck I got on video earlier. I’ve got almost the whole month of December to make it happen.
I hope I can stay warm.

Three years ago, I had all but given up. The last Thursday morning of the regular season, I put up my set as usual. The squirrel had been unusually active in the spot, so I brought a 17 HMR with my 308.
About 7:20 AM, I see movement in some bushes and I engage with the 17 HMR. But, out steps a buck.
Luckily, I had set up a half-blind. I was able to slowly switch rifles without getting busted .
To be a successful hunter you have to enjoy being on the hunt.
Not seeing, not shooting, not tracking , not gutting or dragging.
Being in pursuit is the joy.
Don’t get me wrong, sitting forever and not seeing anything sucks balls, but the perspective of enjoyment is lost in the present.

That land is surprisingly COUNTY land. Only heard about a dozen shots here this year, - he must have been one of the lucky ones. Tell him don't be bragging up the area here, deer population is actually pretty thin. Several years ago, during the CWD disease, the DEC "sampled" 800 deer from this immediate area, the herd has not really rebounded yet. I do hope all that venison from that DEC 'sampling' was not wasted. NICE BUCK! CONGRATULATIONS!

Morning found me back in the woods. This time in a favorite squirreling spot in WMU 3M. Last weeks take had a low yield because of poor marksmanship. I was looking to add to my freezer with a modest deer between 70 and 100 pounds. Any larger and I would have trouble dragging it out.
I had packed up for the day and was taking a scout around. This 3-point buck presented itself. 3M has no antler restrictions. Still, I considered letting it go. But, the size was right and getting up into the sub-freezing weather is getting harder. This might be my last opportunity to add to the meat supply.
I stood still and watched the buck tiptoe leisurely through the woods about 40 yards off. It turned broadside utterly unaware of my presence. I counted up the points , one-two-three. Finally, I decided to shoot.
Early last year a bought the Ruger American 7.62x39 and spent most of the summer working up a hunting load. The rifle failed to deliver last season. But, this season it fulfilled the promise.
40 yards, off-hand, the deer was dropped in it’s tracks with a shot through the chest. Seconds later, I was on the scene watching the deer expire. I put second shot through through the brain to put the lights out.
I think I’m done for the regular season. I may try for a third during muzzleloader season. But, I will probably donate the meat.
That is a 1.5-4x28 Nikon P-Tactical scope. It’s a perfect scope for the close-up hunting in this spot.

That's a little guy. I'm honestly surprised it has antlers. Regardless, he should taste good.
