You killed a rock ?I took a brief scout into the woods to put up a trail-cam. I bumped three doe off the camera location. I figure that’s a good sign. I’m frustrated not to be out with a bow. But, I did bag first blood with the Benjamin Marauder. View attachment 176163

They’re pretty hard to spot on the trees as well.Get those old man eyes working ,,,, there is a squirrel
The good news is when Train season opens you're already ahead of the game.I had an idea that deer were using a rail track to traverse the base of a ridge. I put out a trail camera to investigate. Turn# out to be difficult to verify.

That’s a different kind of game, hunger games.I spotted what I thought was a spot were game was crossing a small stream. I put up a trail cam. It turned out to be hikers. I ended up deleting a whole bunch of people pics.

Or "Surviving the Game"That’s a different kind of game, hunger games.
Been there done that. I had a shot lined up on a Great Dane once while it was coming at me and jumped all over me. It was not aggressive so I didn’t shoot it. The yuppy hipster never took his nose out of his phone and never knew o was there and almost shot his dog.I was squirrel hunting with the Steoger Condor Longfowler 20 ga. near Onteora Lake. I was a little hesitant to hunt here because it’s pretty popular with hikers a campers.
West of the lake there is the bed of an old quarry road on a short ridge overlooking a primitive campsite between the ridge and the lake,
I noticed the campsite was occupied by two doe browsing some of the bush. Because of my elevated position, I was able to sneak in for some short video through the brush.
Just behind the deer, there was a squirrel working a tree. Rather than shoot over the deer and risk wounding them, I decided to let them move on while I tracked the squirrel.
In about 10-minutes, the deer spooked off. The squirrel stayed in place on my side of the tree, so I begin to line up shot.
That’s when I noticed dog a some hikers coming north on trail from the parking lot directly in the line of fire. Apparently, the deer have very good hearing and heard the hikers before I did.
Without a safe shot, I tried to work my way down the slope and between the squirrel and the hikers. But, I could not get close enough for a good shot.
I pretty much just went home.
