NY wants to ban use of lead ammo on state land or "land contributing surface water to the New York city water supply". Lead from hunters' bullets is an absolutely trivial source of environmental lead. This bill is trying to solve a non-existent problem in a way that places an unnecessary financial and availability burden on hunters. Lead-free ammo is not readily available in all common hunting cartridges, and even when it is available at all is significantly more expensive than traditional ammo.

This bill proposes to ban their use on state land, but soon enough, they will be happy to ban lead bullets altogether. With the current cost and availability of ammo, it's something we definitely don't need. I encourage you all to follow the link to voice your support against this bill.

NY State Assembly Bill 2021-A5728

Prohibits the use of lead ammunition in the taking of wildlife on wildlife management areas, state forests, forest preserves, state parks or any other state-owned land that is open for hunting and on land contributing surface water to the New York city water supply.

I was talking more about availability. If you want to hunt bad enough you'll have to pay to play. There will be some bullet out there that will work in your caliber. You can even go as far as making your own non lead bullets. Besides. Ammo is ridiculously expensive across the board anyway.

Some of the best conservationists and protectors of the environment I know are hunters and fishermen.
For actual hunting I dont see a huge problem essentially because one doesnt use many bullets and in the alternative designs one actually has one of the most effective designs one could use.
But for the same reason, because we do not use many it is not possible to conclude this has a significant impact in the environment.
Then in competition and target areas people should have a way to take some preventive measures and recovery therefore giving the option.
Indoors many places forbid cast but also because of the fumes.they allow fmj/tmj and have efficient recovery systems.
The US Army is the biggest polluter even they train in designated areas.
Imo Education is way more important than arbitrary enforcement everywhere but again, who really believes the health of the environment is their goal here?

They can kiss my ass. The bullets that actually end up in the ground wouldn't even actually register in the water pollution equation. There's a shit ton of other HUGE sources of pollution just waiting for attention. Just another way to squeeze hunters out of the game.....which is their goal.

That’s what this is about is reducing the number of hunters and then we don’t need guns right?

It’s not about how many you use to me it’s a mental block that you’re not going to pay say $50 for that box of ammo. It’s just like gas prices and the suspension of the gas tax. It’s $0.15/gallon, woo pie, but people want to see that price drop and they are happy. It only saves you a few bucks per week, but it’s all in what you feel and think.

just had a truck at work .. dec logo on it .. fish and something .. tanks on the flat bed .. yep .. hauling baby trout .. to transfer to another hatchery
and driver said they will end up somewhere in Long Island .. i replied .. poor fish .. ..
