2023 - 2024 Predator Season

I got a head start on the season this morning. On rt 219 right at the NY / PA State line, I whacked a coyote with the big truck. As far as I'm concerned, it counts toward this year's total !

If I can get the boss to send me the dashcam footage, I'll post it. It was more of an accident that I hit it, because I didn't see it until just before impact. I was actually trying to miss the fawn that was running across the road. This coyote was chasing the fawn.

No shots fired, no thermal or nightvision used, and no fur to bring home because I didn't have a shovel with me.

Double down Sat Pm.
40lb Male and 31lb female.
Spotted and called them in from over 400 yards away.

I dropped the female first and then my buddy dropped the male after I ran out of ammo.
I spotted it in the woods for him after I stopped recording.
Looks like I hit it in the foot with my last shot to slow it down.
I could hardly see the reticle during the fun, so I changed it afterwards.

Ended my week off coyote hunting by taking down one of the dogs that we think chased the landowner last week while he was checking trail cameras and walking his dog's.
Two dogs were flanking us while we were walking through the woods, but they closed the gap quickly after we entered a field they just put some cow in.
Bad move for the lead dog.
46lb male down.
The landowner was very happy.

Guess the coyotes still wrinkle my feathers. Anxiety got the best of me.

Started out with a pair howl and they lit up real close to me, real close. From my left and from my right.
So that started my blood pumping because I knew I could get them to come in.
2nd call I played a rabbit distress and then after it went silent I could see them sitting in the field off to my right.
3rd call is the one they came running in on and it was Girl Fight.

First shot was rushed and then gun jammed. 2nd shot was another shitty shot at about 300yds.

It was a quick hunt. In the field in Bergen at 730pm and shoving pizza down my throat in Churchville by 830pm.

Came in on a string from a long ways away.

Small male down with my friends newly Re barreled Savage Impulse Predator 22-250 topped with a spanking new Pulsar Thermion XP50 2 Pro LRF.
Made for long range shooting, but he ended up dropping it at 20 yards on the road as we were walking into our first stand location of the night.

Tagged out on deer, so I broke out the .243 Impulse coyote death machine and dropped this male Monday Am on a dairy farm near camp.

Just went out and found him. 1st year pup.
No fur damage at all, bullet went in and exploded inside
Couldn't even find the entrance wound

For the first time in many, many years, my tradition of coyote hunting on New Year's Eve and into the wee hours of New Year's Day is broken. My recent diagnosis and resulting surgery prevented me from getting out much at all for this whole season. Hoping to get out by the end of January and that I'm able to hunt February and March. Getting old sucks !

Decided to end the year on a bang coyote hunting, but the coyote had different plans so I dropped this fox at 20 steps with a 70 gr Nosler BT out of my Enhanced .243 Impulse.
My Buddy filmed it with his new Thermion scope.
Not pretty.

Started 2024 on two new farms.
The first farm we took down 3 coyote.
This is a video of the second dog we took down that was scenting the trail of the first dog my buddy shot a half hour before.


While we were exiting the second farm I spotted what I thought was a coyote on the road.
After watching it run around, we came to the conclusion it was a large fox.
The cloud cover disappeared and the moon was starting to light us up, so I made it rain fox bit's.
Normally we would let a fox pass, but it was on the farmers hit list.

January started off fast and furious, but has died down considerably.
Don't know if hunting is the cause or their just getting better at avoiding us.

Here's the video I took with my X50.
We alternate being the shooter after each coyote kill.
Two dogs came in but the dog in the woods on the left disappeared and my buddy who was sitting couldn't see the dog coming in through the tall corn stalks, so I had to let him know or he would've tried to stand up to take a shot and scared it away.

Last kill with the backup Adder scope before it was sent to a friends home.

Dog 3 was from a pair that came to a spot 170 yards away before the wind shifted.
My buddy nailed it with the 22-250 Impulse.
He didn't see the second dog run up the hill, so I took a half assed shot before it disappeared into the woods.
