2025 Gardening thread, whatcha growing or doing in the yard

I’m expanding this year again, yes it’s an illness. I have 144 seed cells and I have already started some pepper seed, lettuce, and rosemary. The others will trickle in. I’m expanding my herb selection because I dried parsley, basil, and rosemary last year and oh boy it’s way better than store bought crap. The parsley has flavor and is very aromatic. The rosemary is to die for and doesn’t stab you in the mouth. I bought 10 more 15 gallon grow bags and I’m trying a few different kinds of peppers this year. They say they are direct sow and no need to start indoors because they grow so quickly. I’ll start mine in a month indoors because I want big plants ready to go. I’m hoping for a good garlic year since I finally bought actual seed garlic, covered them and we had an actual winter.

Yeah, I'll be putting a couple of apple trees in and a bunch of stuff you can't eat like Dawn Redwoods. I'll never get to enjoy their magnificence but I don't care. My wife handles the edible stuff.

My small area container garden that is buried under snow will be expanded this year by 2-3x. Every container will be raised up so no crawling on the ground for me this year.
I’m starting seeds indoors for my first time. I’ve been lots of YouTube videos for my last 3 months of being a couch potato. I’ve been making charts for sowing and planting dates for 16 different veggies. I’ve only done store bought tomato, zucchini plants and 5 gal bucket potatoes before. I bought those 10gal grow bags you recommended @Saltwater60.
So far only some spinach and peas sowed so for.
I’m excited about this. It’s my 1st hobby that will actually give me a return on some of my money unlike shooting sports

I love the grow bags. Just a recommendation on seed sowing dates I bump them up by t2-3 weeks because I grow in my basement and it’s a bit cooler. I do run a heating pad set at 72-73 but they seem to be a bit delayed to me. Also did you buy lights for your seeds? Many say you can do them in a window but I would caution against that.

Are you hoping to get apples from these trees? If so make sure you get ones that cross pollinate. Pay attention to pruning and squirrels. Squirrels love my apples and it’s a huge problem for me.

Yeah my basement is a consistent 60. No heat pads but 2 4 bulb 4’ led lights. Keeps the temps 73-80 depending how close the trays are to the lights. I draped one of those cheap survival blankets over the lights to keep the heat in

Cool and looks great. It’s mainly with my peppers, basil, and rosemary plants because they like to so warm.

We long ago declared the deer and rabbits the winner in our garden and have reverted to a few small containers of herbs and the like on our deck.

My wife does a veg garden outside and we have rabbits. Funny thing is they never eat her veggies. No fencing or any kind of deterrent at all. My hounds dont bother them at all. Mickey was squatting for a piss one day and one of the rabbits came out from under a big leaf in the flower garden and stopped right under her nose. Just sat there with no reaction from either of them. I wonder if they have some kind of deal, "dont eat moms garden, and we wont eat you".

So far the rabbits don’t eat my plants. I told them eat all the clover you want, don’t eat my plants and I won’t shoot you. So far so good.
Now the chipmunks are another story. We are at war!

The rabbits are terrible this year with the snow covering everything. They are eating anything that’s sticking out of the ground now. It’s terrible.

Got it and if you’re making cider shouldn’t bean issue. The squirrels get most of mine and I have taken extreme measures together any apples. In fact I have to wrap them in plastic cones duct taped to each other or I get zero. I’m guess you don’t have a ton of squirrels out your way like I do. Squirrels thrive in suburban areas like mine because of the lack of predation

I wish they’d eat my squirrels. I keep my pond running all winter so it doesn’t freeze over and kill my fish but the cats never stay long.

For anyone that doesn't think you have space for fruit trees, you really can keep them quite small with regular pruning.

I have been trying to plant at least one fruit tree every day after work. Got really cold again here this week. I'll resume next week and continue until they begin to break dormancy. Then it's on to the berries until grapes get here late next month.

She's got a few indoor starter green houses. A small raised bed out in the yard from last year, and she bought two more. We went to raised beds because it was cheaper than trying to keep up with the acidic sandy soil in the ADK's.

I'm doing the usual and adding some heirloom and less known varieties.
Im a huge fan of hot peppers.
I'm growing my usual Habenero, Jalapeño, Red Savina......
And im adding Aji Charapita, which are very difficult to grow apparently but they are extremely good peppers.
Also adding....Jalapeño Zapotec and Brazilian Starfish, both unusual but very good.
And a few new beet and onion varieties I've been interested in.

We had a bunch before moving. The woman who bought the old place wanted them, so we left them for her. I mentioned using them again, but happy wife, happy life, so we went with the steel boxes. They can be moved, but it's a bit of a pain in the ass.

Steel isn’t a bad choice. I like the grow bags for how cheap they are and they are so simple.
