Friday PM/ Sat Am - I finally made it out of the suburbs and into the woods around 10pm.
Heard coyote right from the start, they were just 400+ yards away.
Dropped my call while trying to get closer.
Had six small coyote 40 yards away from me while I was searching for where I thought the call was.
They were in the woods, but my rifle was sitting in the tripod 50 yards away.
Might as well have been one mile away.
With the wind in my favor, I snuck back to my rifle, but they melted into the woods.
Those dogs should play the lottery.
Sat Pm/ Sun Am - Hiked down to where I saw the dogs 400 yards away, but nothing showed up and I heard dogs calling from up the hill, where I started.
I keep telling myself that it's good cardio in prep for deer driving.
Made it back up and was conversing with a male dog, but our conversation ended abruptly after a car drove past.
It must've been calling from near the road and got scared away by the car, or so I thought.
I packed up and was headed back to the van to make a move to another property, when I noticed some movement around a pond that geese usually hang out in overnight.
No geese there, but as the bright spots came out of the tall grass, I could see it was two coyote.
I set up, but the wind swirled and they were getting nervous and started moving away.
I hastily set up the tripod in a clear area and the rest is history.
You can see a vertical line in the video, that's the vans antenna.
I hit the tripod with my boot as I was taking the shot.

After the shot, I tried to spot the other dog, but it must've found the one escape route that I don't know about.
Next time.
On the way to other properties, I saw 5 coyote in areas I don't have permission to hunt.

Was that your first kill with the XG? If so, how do you like it compared to the XP?
I like the fact that your Pulsar records sound,,, Im assuming it records and that wasnt video edit. Neither the AGM's or the Bering Optics record sound.

First coyote kill with the XG.
The XP has a wider field of view, because of it's 1.5x base mag + 38mm lens.
It's a great scope, but it doesn't have a BAE sensor of the XG and I've always wanted another BAE sensor scope after I sold the N vision Halo I had.
The XG is the first BAE sensor thermal scope that has the ability to record images , sound ,has an internal shutter and doesn't cost more than a good new car.
Pulsar thermals have all the bells and whistles, and are affordably priced, that's why I've been using them for decades.
Your video,,, Im assuming,, he thinks he pissed you off, by shitting on your lawn.

I had to watch it a couple times wondering what happened, then realized he took a dump before he was dumped
I had all kinds of plans and ideas to hunt a spot that I got shots on 2 of them last year and rain canceled it. More than likely it will cancel it tonight too. Have to try for Sunday night. Though it will be short, seeing how I have work Monday morning.
Though I did just order a new call this morning.
Hopefully the sounds and volume will be better than the Foxpro Shockwave I ordered and returned back a few months ago.
The Foxpro was built very well but like I said, volume sucked and so did the sound of the calls
I also ordered a tripod for my new caller, to get it off the ground

I'm looking at getting a more powerful dual motor off road scooter to haul me around and they ain't cheap.

@Shoots100 what were you using as a scooter? Might be cheaper to use a golf cart. I don't know much about the electric ones, we have a gas Club Car that we plan on lifting this winter so we can put some good tires on it. This spring I'll camo it. We take it everywhere.
Maybe I will go out tonight, to my deer hunting grounds. Where I saw the yote 50 yds away from my stand, as I was walking back to the truck. Its only kind of off and on sprinkling here right now.
Just got my new rubber eye piece in the mail for my scope. Lost the one it came with last weekend. This one slides a half inch further up the scope and should hold way better. The same night I lost my AGM eye cup off my mono. That one I found. Its now double tie wrapped, with small thin tie wraps,,, so it shouldnt come off.

I was using a blaze 48V 2000 watt off road scooter.
It's a nice scooter, but under powered, especially when I'm all decked out in my hunting gear.
I tried to make it more powerful, but it's not in the cards.
It was a semi expensive lesson to learn ( the salesman said it would do what I needed it to do ! ), but now that I know what I know, all I need to do is save up the $1,800 to buy the 60V 5600W dual motor off road scooter I should've bought from the beginning.
The reason for the scooter, is that I usually hunt alone, it folds up, fits in my van, no trailer needed, doesn't use gas and it's quiet.
We've been using a bad boy buggy for years and upgraded to a Textron Prowler EV in 2019.
I use them 90% of the time while upstate when hunting with my buddy and others, but downstate and solo, the scooter rules the day.
The scooter does have it's limitations (One person ,going across creeks, deep puddles, bad weather), but it suits 95% of my needs and I miss it.
At night and in total darkness, I use a handle bar mounted IR flashlight and NV goggles.
I could've driven right into deer or over rabbits multiple times and have used it to head coyote off at the pass.
The scooter made predator hunting much easier for me.

Nothing heard or seen again tonight at one of my hunting club ranges that I was told had coyote all over the place.
3 separate times hunting them there and zilch.
Maybe the fourth time will be a charm ?
I set up the van rooftop mounted thermal for awhile, as it got a little windy and it was a lot nicer sitting in the van reading hunting report texts from friends.

Wife's kid just brought home a Polaris xplorer 300 4x4. Told him it's my new yote hunting rig lol.
Shot another one last night using the brand new Lucky Duck Roughneck caller for the first time. The caller is loud if you want it to be and very clear. Unit is small. Unit came with a ton of extra sounds when I purchased it on the Verminator Website.

Replying to this comment but what I am about to write has nothing to do with what you wrote. Figure I would talk out in the open so others can benefit, like I have from personal conversations with you and to give you a review.

1. Sound quality is excellent
2. Volume is enormous if you want it to be
3. Many different great sounds, with the majority being coyote. Tons of extra sounds come on it when you buy it from the Verminators website Lucky Duck Roughneck
4. Quality of the unit , I give it a 8 out of 10. Think its built pretty well, just cant give it a 10, for no other reason than 10 is utter perfection and nothing is really perfect.
5. Size? Its an excellent size for a unit and works excellent on the little 20 dollar amazon tripod I bought for it

1. Not so much a con but maybe just not exactly to my liking. The 1st set last night I played one of the put together predator hunts.
It first played some different hollows and once it stopped the coyotes behind us, across the street lit up like it was Christmas. I dont think it waited long enough to play the next sound, which was a prey in distress, which sounded like maybe a woodpecker. Then it didnt wait long enough before it went right into a pup distress.
2. The next con could be just me too. Not familiar enough with the buttons and a minute after selecting your call the lights on the unit go dark to save battery life, this includes the button lights. So I had a little problem with this at times.
3. Not a fan of the nick names they give certain sounds because it makes it a little difficult knowing if Im picking what I actually want to play. This feeling will go away once I get more use out of it and start memorizing the names.

I was out at one of my regular farms, sitting in a treestand about 15 - 20 feet off the ground. The field this stand overlooks is just a bit over 600 yards from the stand across to the opposite hedgerow. There is a slight valley that cuts across the field, and even from the elevated position, I cannot see a coyote if it is traveling in it. The far side of the field is obscured by a slight hill in the field, to the extent that only the head of a deer standing at the edge can be seen. A coyote could not be. A human would only show as upper torso and head.
I had been sitting quietly, had just played a short burst of calls on the caller, and was scanning with the thermal. Earlier I had noticed a heat source on the far side of the field, but could not determine what it was, and it disappeared into the woods. After looking the entire field over left to right then back left, I turned to the other side to look at the trail and woods. As I turned, a shot rang out from the field I was just scanning. It scared the hell out of me ! I turned around just as a second shot was heard. This time bark from the tree I was in fell on me ! A whole lot of screaming was accompanied by me searching the field with a 3 million candlepower white spotlight. I saw nothing. I literally threw most of my stuff out of the tree and got on the ground as quick as I could. I gathered my stuff and headed to the truck. Not wanting to take any more chances, I drove into the field to get my Foxpro. From there I drove the entire perimiter of the field to see if I could find the person shooting at me. No luck. ( fortuitous for them ). I didn't find any other vehicles, either, which indicates the person lives within walking distance (?). What the Hell !?

Spoke to the farmer's son. He informed me that the guy down the road has an axe to grind with the his Dad's little brother. Apparently, the guy down the road was caught jacking deer in the middle of the night on the farmer's land and got arrested for it. DEC searched his place and found several deer that had no tags. They confiscated everything, or so they say. I have no proof it was him, but it sure sounds plausable. I drive right past his house to get up the logging road that gets me to the field. The farmer's brother and I drive similar trucks, in the dark it would be hard to tell the difference. As the logging road winds around the side of the field, that puts the treestand I was in on the far side of the field from this guy's house. More coincidence ? I don't see how anyone could "accidently" think that something in a tree 15 -20 feet off the ground is anything but a person. This was deliberate in my view. I got the arresting officer's name from the son. I'll give him a call on Monday.

Maybe we'll meet up sometime to do a comparison ?
Having 2 callers playing a distance apart, talking to each other would be ideal.
It could work out quite well for getting them to come in. Ive thought about doing this with my 2 callers.
Just an FYI,,, I think I am still going to try and go to the Catskills at the end of January, so maybe theres a chance we could meet and setup a hunt while I am up there.
As far as what you said to me in our private conversations about how I waited before I shot? Ive been talking with Kory Kirschenman from Night Goggles (sp?) about ranging the shot. He told me to watch for thermal shading to know when they are in range and thats what I did. Yote came out of the woods and he was black. When the yote was in range his shading was black legs, black muzzle but his body was grayish white. Thats when I knew to bark and get him to stop and make the shot.
Did something I didnt want to do last night especially when we have so much property to hunt. We went back to the same property we shot the 3 pups in the week before.

Sat out last night for a while, snow/rain mix. Saw a bunch of deer and nothing else. I just sat there getting cold and wet, not hearing a response to any call. Then I spilled hot coffee on myself, so I figured it must be time to leave. Got all the way back to the truck and realized I left one of my scanning lights in the tree. Went all the way back and couldn't find it. Got back to the truck and there it was on the ground. That's as much fun as I had.

Pups without guidance are easy pickings and should be eliminated first, as their more of a threat to livestock because of their desperation to find food.
Letting them live will only add to their education in survival.
It's nice to be able to get on them from minute one.
Your keeping them on their toes.
I stopped at a friend's house after work to drop off a few parts for his tractor this evening. Nobody home yet, so I walked around the back of his house to put the box on the porch. He has a little chicken coop about 30' from the back of the house, and as I came around the corner, I saw a coyote circling the coop. I dropped the box of parts and drew my .40. I emptied the mag as it ran for the woods. I definately hit it. I saw it do a summersault but then got up and kept running. It was hurt though. I found blood where I rolled it, and spent a half hour trying to track it, but no luck. It went through a bunch of golden rods and into the woods behind his house. Judging by the bright color and the froth in the blood, I hit it in the chest. I'm convinced it didn't go very far, but I just couldn't find it.
