22LR Ammo Test RWS vs. Aguila

I grabbed two boxes of 22LR ammo on the way to the range today.

RWS Target LRN 40 gr. $10
Aguila Super Extra High Velocity Copper-Plated RN 40 gr. $5

I thought you guys might like discussing the difference in accuracy in high-velocity and standard velocity ammo.

The rifle was a Ruger 10/22 Green Mountain Sporter w/ Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40 BDC

I shot 50 rounds of each in 5 round groups at 50 yards. I shot from the bench with front and rear bags.

I must say, I was impressed with the cheaper Aguila ammo as it would be somewhat more than suffcicient in the accuracy department for almost all of my needs with 22 LR. Yep, the RWS fared better, in accuracy, but I would rather have double the amount of what is somewhat more than sufficient than less by half of the ammo that is overly so with regard to my need for accuracy while possibly giving less of other aspects such as velocity and hitting power.

Anyway, you were comparing an ammo specifically made for target shooting against one made for plinking and hunting and that was half the price of the target ammo. What was that supposed to show exactly - that there would be a difference? I think that was a given. If you want to compare high velocity ammo to standard velocity then why not even the playing field so to speak as much as you can?

I think that comparing ammo made by the same manufacturer in both high and standard velocities would be a fairer test to determine the difference between high and standard velocities as opposed to the differrnce between a budget brand and a more expensive one. Do it with both types of ammo from several brands and you may have something there from which to draw valid conclusions or for discussion or debate.

Sounds like a fun shoot. Did not mean to come off wrong, just wondering, in my long winded way so to speak, why you had compared those two.

I only use Aguila. Began many years ago with it when I used to order and ship from TSUSA(which can now suck my cock,happy with my change after their games ) Aguila is affordable at my LGS 45$/500 and clean enough for my liking.

Wow, you think $45 per brick is affordable when it is selling for much less elsewhere? You must have a much better paying job than what my pension pays me!

Then maybe do yourself a favor and think of how much more of it you could buy at better prices elsewhere than at a LGS for $45 per box. That is a ridiculously high price for Aguila when you can get Aguila for much less or even CCI Mini Mags for somewhat less than that.

Do not take me wrong please. I mean, enjoy the job and the cash it pays but enjoy it more by getting a much better price and having more to spend on whatever else ypu can spend it on. Just a thought.

You are so right. I just picked up a case of CCI mini mags for 400, to my door.

I'll leave it for the dozens of people that will defend them and keep giving them money after reading your question and my response lol. But..They crumbled and stopped shipping to NY immediately after Sandy Hook, then we're afraid to ship to NY and had no clue of what laws were real and fake and argued with you when you called because of fear of FUAC. Made half you guys believe you couldn't get ammo shipped to your door during the SafeAct. So for me, being a customer many years before that, I stopped patronizing them..plenty of ammo shippers that never stopped shipping to us because MSM and Cuomo...

I have yet to try Aguila ammo! The RWS did shoot okay in my Ruger 77/22 with a Shilen barrel but not as good as CCI-SV. Which I just got a case of from TSUSA a few weeks back, I haven't tried it yet hope it's a good batch! But I am curious to try the Aguila when I see a decent price on it ( Not $45.00 a brick when TSUSA has it for $25.00 )
