Nothing wrong with a Rem 700 chambered for .243 Win. IF I was only able to have ONE centerfire rifle, .243 would likely be at the top of my list. Varmint to deer. A lot of cartridges just aren't that flexible.

I have been using a Remington 700 in .243 for many years now for deer hunting. I put an XLR chassis on it and it shoots very accurately. The farthest target I hit was 488 yards with a Nikon 6-24x50 scope. There is a picture of it in the range day picture thread.

I bought my daughter a RAR youth in 243. Shoots great for a Tupperware stock. Found a used Savage 110E left hand in 243 for my youngest son.
I wish I had the spare coin to get that 788 243 carbine that was listed here.
It's a good flat shooting round. Varmints to big game. Put a good scope on it. Get your dope for different rounds.

Rem 700 is usually 1:9-1/8 for .243

Hornady recommends 1:8 for their heaviest ELD match bullets. But, my Axis 2 243 doesn’t seem to have trouble with the 1:9.
I’m real curious about the muzzle velocity. I got 108 grain bullets to go 2864 FPS with a 20 inch barrel. That 26 inch barrel will be speedier. If that gun has a 1:8 twist, I bet it will shoot a mile.

My Rem 700 has a 24" barrel, which I love bc as a general rule I like max velocity.
The new Hornady 90 gr ELDX solves the "fast twist" dilemma for Joe Average. I thought about buying a case of the Precision Hunter, but I'd only realistically be extending the range for deer hunting from about 250 yards for the 100gr BTSP to 300 yards for the 90 gr ELDX. To me the extra 50 yards ain't worth the price. Tho to some guy in Wyoming they might be the ticket on pronghorn to 400.
I'm only willing to work with a .24 cal to a point.

The expensive ELD bullets are only good for bragging at the range. I got Sierra Game King 95 grain bullets for deer. I doubt I’ll need more than 300 yards in NYS. That would be a stretch. The last deer I took was 60 yards.

The ELD-X have their place, in larger calibers. Outstanding BC's. They have a 1600 fps minimum impact velocity for reliable expansion. If you never have, crunch the numbers in a ballistic calculator for 6.5 CM, 7mm-08, .308 Win etc., all the way up to .300 Win Mag., and see what today's ammo is capable of in the right hands with the right equipment.
