For those new to the site, and others that I've mentioned to previously, our summer 250 yard Rifle League is up and running again. With some of the older shooters falling off, and the understandable lack of supplies these days, our attendance has waned from years past. I'm hoping to generate some interest on here to help boost the attendance.
Here's some key points to the league:
1. You DO NOT have to be a member of the club to shoot.
2. COST: $ 5.00 for the first round, $ 1.00 each additional relay.
3. WHEN: Typically twice a month but see the calendar page on the website for actual dates. (Evans Rod and Gun Club - Calendar) Rain or shine.
4. TIME: Those who are retired usually shoot the 4:00 relay. Those who still work try to make the 5:00 relay. We have room for up to 7-9 shooters each relay. If we have enough interest, there's additional relays that night.
5. Equipment requirements:
A. Centerfire rifle. Caliber doesn't matter. Style doesn't matter. Bolt gun, gas gun, run what you brung. We have guys shooting "benchrest" rifles, semi custom long range, and every day hunting rifles. If you run a gas gun, please consider a brass catcher.
B. Optics: Up to you. Most run at least a 24x scope but there are no requirements. Spotting scopes can be helpful if you like. All depends on your vision.
C. This is a benchrest setup so bring a comfy seat of your own if you like.
D. If you run a muzzle brake, please bring some sort of protection for the adjacent shooters. It's a simple courtesy.
6. How the match works:
A. Once everyone sets up, there's a 5 minute warmup / sight in stage. Gives you a chance to see where your gun is at that day. You can shoot as many rounds as you like into the practice target (there's 6 total targets on the page, one being your "sighter" target). If anyone needs more time, it's available.
B. Once all are ready the captain lets you know you have 30 minutes to put 5 shots into the 5 remaining targets for a total of 25 record shots. If you shoot too many into one target, there's points deductions. If you shoot too few into a target, there's point deductions.
C. Once the timer stops, the relay ends and your target is collected and taken to the clubhouse to be scored. Maximum possible score is 250.
Again, this is a fun shoot. No trophy's, no internet score posting, no shaming. Shooters can be experienced 30 years or 30 days. There's plenty of friendly guys to offer (if you ask) advice, tips, etc. on equipment, form, or reloading practices since many do roll their own. This is a great way to have fun or sharpen your skill sets. If you're interested in joining the club, please reach out to me as I'm on the membership committee and I can get you an application.
