Another thread posted recently, got me thinking about legal issues and running afoul of the law. I have never been in trouble and don't plan on it anytime soon, but I do like to plan ahead. Does anyone here keep a second amendment lawyer, or a lawyer in general, on retainer? For those of you that do, who? Any other advice about the issue appreciated.

Heaven forbid I ever need to defend myself and find my ass in the wind. Also i heard rumors that NYS doesnt allow carry guard insurance anymore? not sure what thats all about.

I know, thats whats scary. Thats why im thinking i might wanna carry some sort of retainer or carry insurance. Any experience with USCCA?

I do not, but that is the one Sean Hannity advertises on his radio show. Buying insurance has to be cheaper than keeping a lawyer on retainer, which can be quite expensive. Keeping a phone number is free.

I must have missed this. When did he do this? Was it an executive order or did the legislature pass something. Not sure I understand how they can prevent the sale of insurance but there is a lot I don't know.

It is probably just a terminology thing but unless you currently have an issue, or reasonably believe you will (or have ongoing issues), I wouldn't generally retain an attorney (essentially this means give them a chunk of money to be your on-call huckleberry). I too, though, would be interested to know who is well regarded and reliable (and thank you @Celt I will research and probably add to contacts).

search NRA FUAC insurance carry guard

the Insurance holding company has many branches .. they could even back all auto and home insurance .. so they dropped carry guard because the FUAC has spoken no gun insurance to them to keep the rest of there $$$$ incoming ..

Sheldon W Boyce Jr of Rochester . Not cheap , however he knows his stuff and is a highly recommended 2nd lawyer.
I personally consulted with him when I contested my pistol permit denial( long story). He was upfront and honest , he stated it would cost 2,500 or more for him to represent me at my hearing or I could follow his exact instructions and would have an equal chance on my own . I followed his instructions to the T , spoke for myself and 1 month following my hearing I received my approval letter !
It cost me $300 for the 30 min face to face consult and was worth every penny.

He has said he will not touch a criminal case ...If you shot someone in self defense that is the kind of case you would be looking at.

NRA carry guard is from .. "Lockton, the world’s largest privately held insurance brokerage"

FUAC most likely use's them .. oh gun's .. can't have that .. so Lockton drops carry guard so FUAC is all safe again ..
