If anyone here living in Westchester County knows about taking this new 16 hour class. I’m into 3 years of my 5 year license. It expires on 12/24. I believe that I now have to take a 16 hour course before 12/24. Is g to his right?

I'm assuming you have a target or sportsman permit if you don't want to upgrade to full carry your good to go for 5yrs .You are a renewal county, and yes you will have to take the training of 16 hours and 2 hours of live fire training. Good luck.

It's bullshit. I live in Westchester. Have had my full carry for over ten years. I will renew next year and have to take this 16 hour class and everything else too.

The whole fucking State is a "renewal county". There was nothing in the Law stating only the prolapsed rectum tagged onto the south east end of New York has to take the course to renew and everyone else doesn't. That is merely an utterance by one of lady hitler's mouthpieces to try to avoid having the whole thing thrown out in court.
Just wait. After all the smoke dies down they WILL demand that the whole State participate. Assuming this tyranny is allowed to stand.

Oh I know that and I have said that many times over on here. He’s asking for what the rules are and o told him for what they are today. I agree and it will change, but we’re not there yet.

I already have my full carry for 41 years now. Last time that it was renewed was 12-24-2019. Expiration date is 12-24-2024. Am I good till Dec 2024? Thanks for getting back to me.

Do you have prior training ? Military is acceptable. Other training may be acceptable. My understanding is that it is a once in a lifetime training requirement so you already might have met it.

Well to be clear, many states that allow CC require classes and range time. Not saying its right but that is the reality of many RED States. I hope not to be here when my time comes up. Sounds to me there will be a lot of money to be made for those currying favor with the masters. You will soon learn about the extent of their convictions.

Apparently this is not the case anymore and may only be accepted if the training is current within the past 5 years. Law enforcement and military training is also up to the licensing officer so it is not a blanket statement or accepted anymore. O would hope most would accept training for law enforcement and military, but it doesn’t seem 100% anymore. This is getting crazy.

I would call the pistol permit office to make sure but I believe your good till 2024 , I just got my upgraded pistol permit to full carry and it has a renewal of 2026 so I'll have to call and make sure that date is good or not .

I took an article 30 class and a hunters safety course. Does that count? Plus the 8 hour NRA basic pistol training?

Read the picture I put in my post above or look at the FAQ. It seems like they are taking some training if you have proof and it has been less than 5 years. Seems like it is up to the licensing officer so?? Good luck. The only issue is if you get partial credit good luck getting a discount or finding a place that lets you out of that part of the training. I’m thinking it will be 16 hours for $500 or bust.

Naa, the LEOSA training is only like 50 dollars and bring your own ammo. Same with the armed security class renewal. It’s just one big class full of people. 50 dollars a person with a class of 30 people , they will make money. And there are enough qualified instructors to have enough competition to keep costs down.

There are many gun instructors that have said the new 16 hour course will cost approximately $500-$600 per occupant. There have been a few instructors quoted by the media and the articles posted here. If I remember correctly Rochester personal defense is one of them.
The 3-4 hour course for Erie and Niagara county was $60 when I took it many years ago.

Yes, to get instructors. Do you think if 20 people get together it’s going to cost 600 each? Some might try to swindle people into doing that. The NRA instructor course doesn’t cost that much

I think that the DCJS making that determination rather than the actual law. I didn’t read anything in the law about a time limit as to the training .
As for an exception to the training , I found this:
affirmed under the penalties of perjury
by a duly authorized instructor, except that: (i) persons who are honor-
ably discharged from the United States army, navy, marine corps or coast
guard, or of the national guard of the state of New York, and produce
evidence of official qualification in firearms during the term of
service are not required to have completed those hours of a firearms
safety course pertaining to the safe use, carrying, possession, mainte-
nance and storage of a firearm;”
I did not find anything in the actual law that had the 5 year limit on the training but I could be wrong

will 2 weeks of 8 hours a day bow hunting followed by another 2 weeks of rifle hunting satisfy the safety class ..
i don't remember anything in the LAW saying what the TRAINING had to include .. just that the DCJS can just make shit up as a regulation like

Yes but no other state requires you to have a conceal carry license in order to touch, posses, keep or purchase a handgun. In other states you can elect to not have a conceal carry license and still keep your handguns. There is a fair number of people who I know what have gotten or are getting a nys conceal carry license just so they can target shoot or collect handguns. My girlfriend has no interest in ever carrying a handgun, but she has been going thru the process for the last year just so she can touch/hold my handguns and to be able to go to the range with me and shoot my G44. Owning/touching/shooting a handgun should not require a state conceal carry license. I wish one of these gun rights organizations would take that up and sue over that part.
There may come a time I no longer have an interest in conceal carrying a handgun. The fact that I will have to still deal with this BS just to keep my property is infuriating

KY is Constitutional Carry BUT if you want a permit for reciprocity purposes (KY gets you reciprocity with 37 states) you have to take 8 hrs training and pass a ridiculously easy proficiency test. Cost @ $50-75.00. Upside is the reciprocity with most of free America and you can bypass NICS check as well as purchase handguns in OH and IN without having to transfer to a KY FFL (cash & carry).
