30 carbine questions

I know its the wrong section but figured I'd ask here anyway... ive been looking for a 30 Carbine, for ever... i walk into my LGS and low and behold there's an authentic 30 Car on the rack... price was right too... I inquire, and he said law enforcement only... I asked why? He said because it had a bayonet lug on it... not wanting to press the situation. I simply asked if thats the only thing preventing the sale... ill buy it and you can knock or cut it off.. he said that wouldn't do it? Am I missing something or did he not want to deface the gun from original? Seriously a knife at the end of a gun isn't anything that would make it more dangerous and that law is for the fing birds... anywho. Would removing the bayonet lug make it ok for me to own?

Bayonet lugs cannot be present on the rifle per the SAFE act, is why. I agree it's bullshit, but the only way to make it a compliant sale is if they're off the rifle and it's sold compliant afaik.

If he registered his, he could get a non-refundable deposit from you before sending it to a gunsmith for compliancy, I'd assume? I'm not a lawyer so I don't know the correct procedure here.

Thats what I was trying to get at with him, but I wasn't going to argue with someone to shell out 1200 bucks plus smithing fees. I was just curious if that lug was the only thing stopping him from selling it... as it could be easily removed from what I can see... oh well not like he had the ammo for it anyway lol

Personally if I were you, I wouldn't take possession until the work was done and it was officially unregistered or whatever. I don't know the procedure though, legally, for how to convert from a non-compliant registered firearm, to a unregistered compliant one.

Regardless, it's dumb we have to do this, but CYA when it comes to procedure.

The front sight is held on by a pin. Push the pin out, remove the sight, take off the front barrel band with bayonet lug, replace with repro type 1 band, found cheap on line, reset front sight. Under a hundred bucks total, not safe act controlled from that point on.

buy a Mosin M44 ( its a 308 ) .. and work on your bolt flipping speed lol .. and get the real stripper clips .. not them Chinese ones lol

There are 10 round magazines for the carbine and there are strpper clips too for reloading the magazines.

If it's a real C and R carbine ita completely legal for anyone to possess under the SAFE act.

There is a provision for antiques.

If it's some reproduction, you don't want it anyway.

Lots of LEO buy random non duty related firearm because they are privileged enough to do so.

I remember watching a correction officer pick up his stupid ass AR15 style 12g shotgun from turkey.

Remember, their exemption isn't for work related purchases, it's also for their personal enjoyment or home use, so they can buy whatever they'd like as long as they are still actively employed with exemption
