.40 S&W
over the last week i took advantage of some good sales and pieced together everythin i need for a nice .300BLK rifle:
apparently .300BLK does not play well with pistons. i started this build mainly because of the good deal i got on the barrel. unfortunately our ears don't matter in this state so i won't get to take full advantage of the .300 blk cartridge.
i have seen tons of anecdote about .300blk supersonics running a piston gun just fine but subsonics can't do it without a can. to some people sYaying they have gotten their .300 blk piston upper to run flawlessly with supersonic or subsonic even without a can.
i like the idea of shooting subsonic (even though we can't have suppressors) to get rid of the supersonic crack and echo downrange. it would potentially enable me to shoot a centerfire rifle on my brothers property without his neighbors calling in a noise complaint. currently, all we can shoot out there is standard velocity .22lr, (any of the high velocity .22lr or .223 results in a quick visit from the local pd), we are being responsible, shooting into a backstop, well over 500' from any other buildings, etc... but new neighbors apparently didn't realize that life in a rural area may be slightly different than in a city.
getting back on track: my goal is to be able to shoot factory subsonic .300 blackout ammo (unsupressed obviously) from this upper with a 16" barrel and a superlative arms piston kit and have reliable feeding and bolt catch engagement on a empty mag. right now, it looks like i will have a bit of a challenge reaching that goal.
anybody ever do something similar? (worst case scenario i just buy a 6.8 barrel and bolt and skip the idea of a piston driven .300blk)
- aero precesion M4E1 upper with 15" m-lok hand guard
- kak industry 16" carbine gas 416r barrel (1 in 8" twist)
- larue mbt-2s trigger
- cmc lpk w/o fcg
- anderson mfg "mil-spec" buffer tube kit (carbine buffer)
- lwrci bolt
- lwrci cam pin, firing pin, retaining pin
- lwrci standard buffer spring and H3 buffer
- bcm mod 4 charging handle
- superlative arms gas piston kit (solid)
