.450/400 Nitro Ex
Thought maybe this might be a good place to start posting on "larger" caliber rifles. While many aspects of shooting remain the same, I think some are exclusive to larger calibers, especially as it applies to reloading, which seemed to make sense to somewhat separate.
I thought my .300 WinMag was going to be the end of the large caliber road but I think the .338 Lapua Mag is going to be my new dead end sign. Pulled some heart strings with my FFL to move me to the top of the pile so I got this a couple days ago and just got it set up for the range and tested this morning.
Savage 110 Elite Precision .338 Lapua Mag
Ammo: PPU Rifle Line 250g BTHP
Boresight first shots. Top one was first, scope adjustments for the next 2, 4th - done.
Next 5 at 100 yards....
Even with the muzzle brake, the first squeeze was a little unexpected. Ran a total of 20 down the barrel and although it definitely lets you (and everyone else in the area) know it's there, no sore shoulder or anything like that. Got maybe 10 more at 250 but had trigger issues (Accu Triggers don't like being dialed down to a 1 LB) so I need to go back and try again under better conditions.
I'd like to think that with some break in, hand loads and development, and some more trigger time this will be a hell of a shooter for the price. Already starting to eyeball an aftermarket bolt knob, powder, brass, bullets, and dies.
