Evolution of firearms
Every time a substantial design change was introduced and established, it was
for very good reasons and why, today, in law enforcement, military, special units, serious
personal defense, etc... revolvers are not issued anymore.
Effectiveness aside, one might like something based on historic or sentimental value.
First...
Then...
Then...
Then ...
And Finally...
We should not justify buying a honda SUV to go deep into the jungle and expect to make it out.
We might make it out but most folks who want to have a chance to make it out will go for
a properly offroad fitted Toyota 4runner or landcruiser or something like that.
So we have to be very pragmatic and realistic with our needs and expectations.
Is it a defensive firearm what you really want?

Yes he does, lest he wouldn't be able to own any pistols in NYS.

I take that to mean that he doesn't have a concealed carry pistol and a full carry permit. His has a sportsman restriction on it.

He has a CCW with administrative restrictions. All permits in NYS (besides premises) are CCW permits.

U can only use your pistol for hunting and at the gun range but u can not carry it for self defense

For hunting, an AR with a 10" barrel in 458 socom is simple and very effective hunter.

I went today to inspect that revolver.
1-As I was warned, she is BIG. Much more so than a Rossi 357 they had on display.
2-Not all original. Had coating on cylinder and hammer. SN of cyl matches. Pachmyre grips.
3- It had minimal cylinder play in full lock, Overall good shape for a 55yr old piece. Some bluing worn at muzzle.
I will hold off for now. Were it all blued, I'd have pro ably bought it.

The trigger on that is no big deal. It’s nothing more that a removable trigger shoe that somebody put on there. It’s only held on by set screws. Did I read that correctly? The S/N on the Cylinder matched the S/N on the frame? The S series S/N’s are collectable firearms.

SN dates it to 1958/59. Barrel is stamped Highway Patrol . After the 1st year, they're stamped Model 28.

Yeah, a bubba job for sure. I can’t tell for certain from just the one pic but it also looks as though they did their own version of a chamfered cylinder. If so that’s a damn shame. Ceracoating the cylinder was bad enough....Until you paint /ceracoat them. D'oh!
There are better examples to be had for that price.

I carry a .38+p SW 442 on a regular basis and I love the gun. I would recommend you take a look at one of those. I personally wouldn’t want a .357mag in a snub nose. But I do have a ruger GP100 in .357 mag 4inch that I am waiting on new grips compacts from Altamont so I can put my GP in carry rotation when I just want to carry the big boy and when I’m hunting.
I also have a springfield xds 4 inch 9mm. I carry this often as well and would recommend. I am in the 9mm and .38+p camp for ccw.

Well, I hope you boys are right. I placed and order tonight.
Walther PPS M2 9mm Pistol, Black - 2805961
I went to Gander to handle both the Shield and the PPS ( both were priced at $407 plus tax).
All the online reading I've done state that the PPS is a great gun, so took a leap of faith and went for it.
I really wanted to see a Mossberg MC1 but they're sold out everywhere.
My first handgun on my carry permit was a stainless Ruger SP101 .357 w 2" barrel. It is dimensionally identical to a Smith Model 60 in .357, and easier to find. It is still near and dear to my heart and I take it out to carry with regularity. I love the look and feel of revolvers, and my preference is for stainless versions. It conceals fine in an OWB holster.
My other main carry guns are M&P Shields, - both the 9mm and the .45. Normally by pocket carry.
