I don't reload ..and haven't fired a round in years either for that matter, but I've always loved 38spl. Particularly so out of a gun built for .357mag, where you've got that bit of extra weight. For people who do reload though it's a fantastically versatile platform as I understand it.
Reason I ask is , I came into a boatload of processed brass. Like 5-10k, and a ton of lead projectiles also.
Not sure if I want to go down the .38 rabbit hole.

Sounds like you need to start loading.
38 special is one of the easiest rounds to load for, and can be loaded super light since it doesn't need to cycle a revolver.
Yeah, that's what I meant by versatile. That and a wide variety of projectiles for the same reason. I've seen people load it down to have basically no noticeable recoil at all in a nice hefty wheelgun for plinking with flat wadcutters and such, but then it can be taken all the way up to 38+Ps with bullets that make a totally respectable self-defense round.

My wife and I both shoot .38 spl. I even load super ultra light loads of Cream Of Wheat and shoot Yellow Jackets at the camp. Just a magnum primer and about .5-1.gr of whatever powder and a couple of home made wads, lot of fun!
I load my 38 so light you can see the bullet go down range. You also don't need a lot of brass to get started because you don't loose any. If I were in your shoes I would sell most of the brass keep the bullets and start loading.

They were my backup cartridge during the great .22 rim fire shortage couple of years ago. Good garden gun cartridge for close range chuck, racoon. Good light target round. I max out the load and use them in my 1894C lever action.
The wax lube makes the cartridges a little smoky. Nothing Hoppes #9 can't solve.

38 SPC is a great round to load. If you don’t want to get into it now consider packing that stuff away for when you get a lot older and recoil sensitive. The 38 SPC will extend your shooting years well into the future.

I second this. I have several revolvers in .357 Mag. Mostly shoot .38s out of them. In my 6inch S&W 686 it's like nothing. Almost like shooting a .22. Love it!

My first handgun purchase was a .357 mag back in 1987. Love shooting 38 spl through it. 6" bbl makes the 38 spl round feel like an airgun.

He retired in 88 and still shoots his Dan Wesson Mdl 11 from time to time with mild reloads.
