.45GAP round and gun.

From another thread, the question of carry guns and ammo was raised.

45 GAP. We've found a unicorn. I would love for you to elaborate on that cartridge in another thread.

I conceal carry a bunch of different guns and ammo, depending on location, time of year, situation, attire, etc.

My three favorite handgun rounds are 9mm (cost & diversity), .357SIG and 10MM.
A close 4th is the .45GAP round.

It is very accurate in my handguns, thru a wide mix of loads, and the guns (G37, G38, G39) are all as easy to conceal as their other Glock dopplegangers. Also my follow up shots are faster than with the G30 or G21 for the comparable G38 and G37 respectively.

Shamefully, I will add that I have probably 5 or 6 .45GAP guns (maybe 7). As I ALWAYS have a minimum of two identical guns for whatever I carry, and I am fairly sure I have one of those G37s with a "minus" connector in it that I do not carry.

Per the Ministry of War's directive I can purchase all the ammo I need, but will need to outfit the ground troops with winter boots and jackets before any further side arm purchases!

A couple years ago I took the RPD basic carry 101 class and the instructors were singing the praises of the 45GAP. They said the PD that they worked for were running the 45GAP and it was popular. Then I started to see the Glocks start showing up in the used gun self at the local Gander Mountain, I thought someone said the ammo is expensive and hard to come by, but I am not sure about that other than I don't think I have ever seen 45GAP ammo. Tell us more about ammo availability and price.

Not sure if this question is for me or the FFL (Bullet Guy!) in the thread. I have not purchased any ammo in about five years, as when I purchased those guns I got something of a deal on some .45GAP ammo, where I can still shoot 50-100 rds each quarter and be good for another few years. I probably shoot that many rounds 2x a year from that caliber. Enough to remind myself of how the guns behave. I probably carry the GAP guns once every other month.

This round seems to have it's lovers and haters, reminds me of the .40S&W. Did a bit of reading and reviews seem to go both ways, one thing that seems to be true is ammo is expensive.

It is fairly easy to spot the people who have not shot that cartridge.
The round is not cheap, and if I am carrying it for self defense, neither is my life!

10mm - not cheap.
.357SIG - likewise not cheap
5.7FN - not cheap either

It was silly of Glock to push this round as a "Glock" round. No one else (except for Springfield, for a minute IIRC) was going to put a stamp on their barrels that would cause anyone shooting the gun to think of Glock.

I agree your life is worth more than the most expensive round, I just thought training is a $100 day at the range. If you roll your own or buy in bulk you can do OK.

I would love to shoot one to see for myself.

i can give you a receipt that says "ammo" if that will help......

If you pick up brass for the Sig and GAP rounds, their cost for reloading is reasonable.
