Isn't milspec the lowest bidder? Really bugged me about that..
Well it has served us well in war since milspec was a standard contract requirement. Once again, this is an excercise in building a milspec reliable $500 AR not all the bells and whistles tacticool types enjoy.Isn't milspec the lowest bidder? Really bugged me about that..

Got that shit too on other ARs... Geissele trigger, Eotech, Magpul furniture, upgraded charging handles etc......nothing wrong with upgrades and accessories. However, IMO, a low cost build would make me prouder when it goes bang and hits center than all that.View attachment 8900
Here's a $547.63 AR-15 build. It works fine except for being ugly. I like building and testing them but they aren't much fun to shoot compared to something for a few hundred more that has better inherent accuracy and some pride of ownership. I'm the first to admit that I am guilty of adding all these small upgrades and doubling the budget just like the Pentagon....
If you want to bury these in a PVC pipe in the backyard then by all means go for it, but I figure I might as well shoot what I own while I can and enjoy what I am shooting even if that makes me a superficial tacticool poser.
The newer Magpul M-Lok MOE handguards are a nice improvement over the mil-spec. IDK why I'd want a carry handle? This one had a polished trigger too, and it is better than stock but still a lot worse than a good modern drop in or JP. PSA makes good serviceable stuff until you want to remove the barrel nut, they weld them on.
Thats what I have on my PSA M16 style 20" flat top. Seems fine. Here a closer look at the UTG carry handle sight. Solid lock up, milspec made in the USA. The dials are responsive without play and large peep/small peep pivot is stiff. Thumb locks are solid although blue lock tight wont hurt just to be sure. 7075 forged aluminum. Box claims these are torture tested. Windage has reference marks on rear for zeroing. Finish is well done and not overly glossy and matches rifle well (camera flash made it appear so). $45

PSA came through today.....
Initial thoughts are better than expected. Finish is consistent and well done throughout. Barrel is stamped not laser etched. Bolt is substantial and staked well. F marked front sight post. No T-marks on flattop but who really needs that anyway. Hanguards are not flimsy, not double heat shield type but I had thinner ones come with my Stag upper that cost me alot more. For $259 this was a steal.
I'll report more on the stock/lpk and the trigger group when I open them up this weekend.

I dont see any pinning.Leatherneck, is the flash hider pinned ? I was thinking about maybe getting this upper, but changing the f/h out for a pinned thread protector.
As promised...here it is completed.
This weekend I'll hope to christen it.Pow pow pow!
Did you run it yet?
Dont make it like mike's new ak.
I couldn't care less about lighter/aftermarket triggers. Never had any issues with 3 different kinds of mil spec triggers on 3 rifles. They're crisp and feel comfortable to me, and they are reliable. I'm able to fire double taps and rapid fire effectively and very quickly, so I honestly have no use for an aftermarket trigger an anyone of them.
Ignorance is bliss.
Dont ever try a premium trigger. It will ruin you.
I never tried fucking a woman, jerking off was fine for me when I was a boy and it still works for me now lol

The ALG ACT to me was a huge upgrade.
Guns are like women. Buy expensive accessories if you want a good one. Don't brag about the cheap ones.

I have good triggers on my bolt guns. I haven't broke down to put one on my AR types yet. I plan on putting one in both the single shot lowers I put together, just because it may help shrink the groups and that is the reason those lowers were built.Ignorance is bliss.

Phosphate is the black finish that's on a normal m16 carrier. Nitride is the generic term for the trademarked "Melonite".I'm looking into getting an upper from PSA. What are the differences in phosphate or nitride barrels?
