Since the 6.5 mm Hornady ELD Match and ELD-X bullets are in short supply. I've been working up some alternative loads for the Ruger M77 Long Range Target.
The first loads uses Sierra 140 gr Game King Spitzer Boat Tail SP. I loaded it into Gunworks brass. The charge was 59 grains of Reloader 25. I only loaded 20 rounds because Im running short of both Reloader 25 and Large Rifle Primers.
The muzzle velocity was about 3126 fps. This is near the theoretical maximum for 140 gr bullets on 6.5 PRC. I was thinking about a load for hunting big game at longer ranges. But, the rifle is on the heavy side. So, hunting opportunities could be limited to sitting in a stand someplace.
The other load is for long range target shooting. The Bullet is a Sierra Match King 150 gr. HP.
I could not find load data for this bullet, so I started with a recipe for 147 grain ELD bullets and skewed conservatively. I used a charge of 50 grains of Reloader 22 in the Gunworks brass.
The muzzle velocities were about 2790. This is modest for the 6.5 PRC. But, the BC of 0.700 is excellent.
