1:6? That's fast. What's the minimum weight bullet it will stabilize? I have a 1:7 and it's too fast for 55gr. It eats 62gr all day long, but it loves 69-75.
It shot 69 grain Sierra HPBTs pretty nice this weekend. Ignore the one at 3 o'clock that was a 90 grain Berger that was supposed to be on another target. This was just a load I threw together to see how it did from my Ruger #1 I figured since I was there I might as well try it in the 1-6 twist barrel. Shot pretty good for no load development.

You can always get a 18" one and get the threads turned down and recrown. I did this on one of my barrels for a featureless build.
I have shot 53 grain Sierras out of it they group about 1 1/4 inch the heavier ones group a lot better or show more potential with more load development.

I have a few spare barrels in both melonite and stainless that most likely will never use them all.
I think I have a couple with target crowns 1:8 wylde if you want me to check.

I would check with Faxon. Their barrels are already 11* target crowned. Nathan might work with you and pull one from production before threading. Ask, worst he will say is no. BTW, I have a Faxon 16" custom barrel in 6.5 Grendel (Not available to general public yet but they are coming.) It is awesome!

That was 75 yards. Would've needed waders to get to the 100 yd line where I went. For a hunting build, it works for me. And that was the best group of the day. Not to hijack the OP's thread, if you want to start a new one.

At $179 you are well below custom. Most custom barrels start around $300 and go up.
I had some incredible m4 mid non threaded barrels. But they are gone now.
Started using carbine barrels now.
Not sure what 18 internediate gas is though?

Intermediate is a gas system between rifle and mid length. I have one in a 6x45 lw barrel.
The best thing is to ask manufacturers to provide the gas tubes as they are small variations.
2nd from the top below rifle and above mid length.
The 18" runs best in rifle length.

just what is a 223 Wylde chamber ... from what i read i got its a .223 / 5.56 NATO .. you can shoot either in it .. am i correct ? ..
my Mini 14 is stamped .223 rem .. 580's series if i remember .. i see some say i could or could not use 5.56 in it .. could my mini 14 barrel be rechamberd

The biggest difference in the 3 chambers is the throat dimensions. It would not be difficult to cut the 223 chamber in your rifle to the 223 wylde Clearing the Caliber Confusion: .223 Wylde vs. 5.56 NATO - American Weapons Components

internet BS. all i run is 1:7. i hit my targets. if i dont it is my fault not the twist. i have a scar 16 with 20K on it. 1:7 pencil. military grade that i can STILL hit 2-2.5 MOA targets out to 300 meters (yes, it if from Belgium and only shoots in meters that is the one draw back with "imported" firearms. they dont shoot yards very well. you must shoot meters. ) i used to shoot those same targets and distances using irons.....but i am outta practice.
here is a target we were shooting at to check various loads........100 yards (american made. so it shoots yards better
) 1:7. carbine gas. 16 inch good trigger. good rest. great shooter (not me. i am only average)

Hi.
The wylde chamber is a denomination of a chamber with a tad extra freebore that can take 5.56 loads of any kind.
There are many "223" reamers that can take 5.56 so they name alone doesn't say anything about the chamber w/o knowing what reamer was used to cut it
so in case of a manufacturer you have to ask when in doubt or unless specified.
Most modern commercial 223 chambers can take 5.56 as it is both a reliability and potential liability so they do not bother with older reamer designs.
A Wylde chamber can be more accurate but it doesn't mean it has to be more accurate than a 223 or 5.56 because many factors are at play like the
ammo/brass, headspace, actual chamber dimensions regardless of its label.
The Mini is fine for either one unless it is an old one and in any case in terms of accurate the biggest issue will be the mini design itself that is not that
accurate. There is a company accuracy systems inc. that do wider profile and have a wider section gas block so you don't end up with that horrible minor
diameter at the gas block that is what screws up the minis accuracy. So you don't need to rechamber and if you do this is a good way to get the system
re-barreled with decent accuracy.
Regardign the twist 1:9 is fine for most folks but the ideal is 1:8 that is the standard for national match. Military barrels use 1:7 that is also a good twist
and stabilize the long tracer rounds. The twist has no impact in the accuracy potential given you don't use bullets too long in the 1:9 and that is a problem
becuase the best bullets one can shoot int he 70-80gr might require a 1:8 twist. Personally I would not buy a barrel that is not 1:8 or 1:7. 1:6 is ok for research but it doesn't make any sense unless you are going to shoot subsonic loads.
If given the opportunity when ordering a barrel and if to accuracy is wanted specify what chamber/reamer you want, and get the bolt used to heaspace the chamber. This is what match shooters do. This doesn't mean that any other system cannot be accurate but it is the traditional formula to assure accuracy.
There are many 223 reamers that can take 5.56 and potentially more accurate than the wylde itself for certain loads.
The name alone doesn't say anything. Get to know your chamber.

Was it their 18" Predator? I took advantage of their 1/2-price fluting sale to have them "narrow flute" (12 deep, narrow flutes, as seen on the SDM barrel) the whole thing. Dropped the weight to just under 2 1/2" lbs.

Understandable. My "carbine" SCR has a pencil barrel on it right now and is very handy. This barrel was for my SCR SPR, so I was looking for a precision barrel. The profile is 0.900" under the handguards, 0.875" gas block journal and 0.760" up front, which is slightly larger than a typical (nonfluted) SPR barrel's 0.850", 0.750" and 0.730". Originally, it weighed nearly 2 lbs 14oz, but the fluted one is under 2lbs 8oz, which is typical SPR barrel weight. I'm going relatively light on the handguards to keep the total weight down and so that it balances well. Down the road, if the weight really bothers me, I'll send it to WOA or Adco to have the gas block journal taken down to a 1" long 0.750" diameter one, and then the front to somewhere <= 0.750". Would shave a few more ounces off of it.
Anyway, let us know how the new barrel works out.

So I asked ARP if there were any TC barrels in his pipeline and the response was, no. They don't sell quickly and he can't keep the threaded barrels in stock so it's a stupid move to allot a production slot to TC barrels.
Thing is, I keep seeing people looking for TC AR barrels here. Do you guess think a group buy, say 20 barrels, could work? Maybe a joint venture with Calguns forum now that their ban is looming (although I guess the threads themselves aren't evil on the left coast)? If I had the money, I might even try to buy a batch and resell.

I recently found the barrel OP was looking for made by Ballistic Advantage. Monmouth Reloading was carrying them for a great deal. I picked up a Midlength Govt profile 4150 barrel and a SS Midlength SPR profile. Haven't shot them yet but they both look great. Paid $110 for the 4150 and $148 for the SS.
On Monmouth's site if you click on the "SUB MOA GUARANTEED AR BARRELS" picture and then scroll down the left side under "Series/Profile" and click the "Non Threaded" option you get a list of unthreaded barrels. Be careful there always seems to be a couple of threaded options in the list. Also the Govt Profile has a carbine and midlength option. I almost grabbed the carbine by accident.
The barrels are out of stock at Monmouth at the moment but seem to come in and out almost weekly so there must be a decent market for unthreaded barrels.
I'm an NY resident bouncing between VA and NY. When I head to NY (my home state) I have to make sure I only take featureless rifles when entering "Land of the NOT SO FREE"!
I've no affiliation with either company but have felt the same pain as the OP. A friend purchased a 7.62x39 AR barrel from Deadshot with no threads and it seems like a quality product so that route works too.
