I'm currently developing a hunting load for my Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39.
I got my hands on a couple of boxes of these 0.310 Caliber 123 grain Ballistic Tip Hunting Bullets from Nosler . I loaded up about ten rounds so I could measure velocities.
I loaded the bullets over 30 grains of CFE BLK in some Starline brass I bought in April. I used the same recipe for 123 gr. Hornady Interlock SP bullets. The Muzzle veocity for the Hornadys is an impressive 2480 fps. However, I was delighted to get velocities for the Nosler bullets nearly 100 fps faster.
Nosler hasn't published a ballistic coefficient for the ballistic tip bullets yet. But, it is undoubtedly higher than the Hornady Interlock SP. I'm hoping that this will deliver enough terminal energy to take deer to 200 yards.
I'll update this thread as the load develops,
