Being not a hunter... im confused by this story. Was this just a bunch of guys night hunting turkeys for fun and just leaving the carcasses where they fell? And traveling from out of state to do so?

I long for the day when the SCOTUS rules vs NYS, and allows silencers, SBR's and registered MG's here.
Shooting wild Turks, seems to be a waste of time..damn birds are too tuff and lean to eat...but the silencers use is a good idea, so as not to upset the neighbors...the whole intention behind silencers anyway.

So I have one question. They big deal made of thermal optics infers the turkeys were poached at night. But all my wild turkeys spend the night roosting in trees. So what was the illegality of poaching?
